If you’re one of those people who make moaning about the cold their winter hobby, this article is for you. When your fingies are frozen and your is nose running like a tap, there’s nothing like a boozy mug of mulled wine to warm your cockles.

Some of Auckland’s best bars are laying down tasty concoctions of red vino, cinnamon, cloves, star anise and orange zest to help you stay toasty on a chilly winter’s night.

Here are nine of the best places to drink mulled wine in Auckland.

The Golden Dawn

Ponsonby

This Ponsonby spot turns into a cosy den during winter. You’ll easily lose a few hours sippin’ on mulled wine while listening to some sweet tunes by the fireplace. The Golden Dawn slow cook their wine in a crock pot for days and ladle it out to the masses (just like a cauldron). Mixing it up with rum, orange and apple peels, cloves and cinnamon bark, this blend is bursting with warmth and flavour.

46 & York

Parnell

If you’re ever kicking around Parnell and need to defrost, 46 & York is where you should go. This welcoming bar has their mulled wine brewing winter-long and will warm you to the bone. They’ve got a crackling fireplace and a brand spanking new menu full of hearty fare.

Chinoiserie

Mt Albert

The guys at Chinoiserie know how to make you emerge from your cosy hovel of a house. Gua bao and spicy mulled wine is what’s in store with a trip to this Mt Albert fave during winter. They have their concoction brewing away in a crock pot so all the flavours spend plenty of time mingling. We suggest you order a couple of glasses—it’s addictive.

Pocket Bar & Kitchen

Grey Lynn

This Grey Lynn local has a spesh mulled wine in the works (made with pinot noir). Celebrating winter in true style, Pocket Bar & Kitchen brew a mulled wine with mandarins picked from their own garden plus all the classic spices we love!

The Garden Shed

Mt Eden

Rug up your frozen flatmate and take them to The Garden Shed to defrost by the fire. Their mulled wine is top-shelf and top-secret, but a delicious one at that. And for an alterantive take, they also offer a mulled apple crumble cider. Winter, come at us!

Chapel Bar & Bistro

Ponsonby

You can't go past a trip to Ponsonby's favourite Chapel Bar. The atmosphere alone makes you forget those work woes, but when accompanied with a delicious glass (or three) of mulled wine—well, it's safe to say we're sold

Coco’s Cantina

K Road

Trust Coco’s Cantina to whip up one of the best mulled wines in Auckland. This legendary restaurant knows how to keep us nice and snug via spag and meatballs, mulled wine and warming Italian hospitality. Get amongst.

The Bramble

Onehunga

The Bramble’s mulled wine has been described as ‘seductive’ and we have no doubts that it will lure you into a happy, toasty mood. It’s a little on the heavier side, with bold spices and a robust body but it’s sure to have you cruising back to Onehunga for more.

The Wine Cellar

K Road

Another year, another sterling batch of mulled wine from The Wine Cellar. Hidden down the stairs of Saint Kevins arcade, The Wine Cellar is just the ticket for when you’re looking to escape from the elements. It comes in a convenient 350ml teapot, how cute is that?
