Melbourne Cup Day is upon us (Tuesday, November 7 FYI) but, sadly, many of us won’t be making the trip to Flemington. Fear not, you can still party in style right here in Auckland. Some of the city’s finest venues are going all out with big screens, bubbles and—of course—fancy hats. Here are the best places to watch the Melbs Cup in Auckland.
There’s no place more fitting to be on Melbourne Cup Day than at a racecourse. Taking a page out of Flemington’s book, Ellerslie Racecourse will showcase horse races taking place right before your very eyes. There will also be live coverage from the action in Melbourne as well as mouth-watering eats and an on-site after-party. The prestigious style award will be up for grabs, so don your Sunday best—or, in this case, Tuesday best!
If there’s one restaurant that knows how to throw a Melbs Cup party, it’s Cibo. The tranquil courtyard is the perfect setting to party al fresco this—and every other—Cup Day. You’ll be greeted with a smile and a glass of Champagne while canapés make the rounds at the stunning venue. Kicking off from 12.30pm, the afternoon will also showcase a divine four-course meal and a whooole lot of antics.
The Lula Inn
Ditch the office early and head on down to The Lula Inn for a tropical twist on Cup Day celebrations. Kicking off from 4pm, the island oasis be heaving with everything you need for a good time. Think epic food and drink, a screen to watch the race and a band to keep things pumping into the evening. Entry is free but we suggest you opt for a luxurious private booth package—complete with sharing plates and bottles of Champers.
Bellini is back to celebrate the 2017 Melbourne Cup and trust us—they really know how to throw a party! Supplying coverage of the races and stunning views of the harbour, Bellini will welcome you with a flute of Champagne to kick things off. Better yet, there will be canapés flowing throughout the afternoon. This is sure to be a late one, so get your outfit sorted, get your bets on, and book your spot now.
The always cheerful Ponsonby hotspot, Mr Toms, will be hosting their annual Melbourne Cup Day party with Champagne on arrival, continuous platters throughout the arvo and cocktail specials to keep you going well into the evening. Don’t forget to glam up in your best suits, frocks, and fascinators and you may just find yourself winning best dressed!
Harbourside And Botswana Butchery
With a sun-soaked view of The Viaduct, the champers flowing, and the awesome duo that is Harbourside and Botswana Butchery, it is set to be a great Melbourne Cup Day celebration. Sit back and enjoy a four-course meal while catching all the pony action on the big screens before getting down at Harbourside for the official after-party.
Don that racing attire and head along to a high tea soiree at the Sofitel. This themed event will include a glass of G.H. Mumm on arrival, live piano entertainment and even Mumm poptails. We're there!
Longroom is promising two-and-a-half hours of racing day greatness this Melbourne Cup. Ditch work early and head on down for bubbly Mumm Champagne, continuous canapés, live DJs, best dressed awards, and scrumptious cocktails—you know you want to! To sweeten the deal, Longroom will have Ponsonby Road’s only official TAB facilities on-site. May the odds work in your favour.
Regatta Bar & Eatery
If you’re hanging out on the oppposite side of the Harbour Bridge, not to worry because Regatta is bringing you all the action on The Shore. A five-course set meal and an abundance of Champagne will make for a lavish time spent beach-side! We also hear there will be live entertainment from the likes of The Peter Urlich Duo and even a fashion showcase from Lana Boutique.
Soul Bar & Bistro
Soul Bar is no stranger to Melbourne Cup celebrations and this year is set to be as great as ever. The waterfront restaurant is known and loved for its antics including their famous stiletto race and horse shoe toss. We’re sorry to break the bad news, but this event is already a sell-out. Suss a plan B and try again next year!
Celebrate the races in the most luxurious way at Pilkingtons’ third annual Melbourne Cup party. After the success of the past two Melbourne Cups, Pilkingtons is bringing back the fun-filled affair with a three-course meal and courtyard entertainment—even after the races are long over. Make sure you come dressed to the nines to get snapped by the in-house photographer and secure your place as Pilkingtons best dressed!
