Something magical happens when the Italian aperitif Aperol is mixed with soda water and prosecco. It’s like a little explosion of summer in your mouth—the sweet citrus marries with the bitter Aperol and the crisp bubbles give it that all-important zing. Close your eyes and you’ll be transported to some stunning restaurant on the Italian Riviera in no time.
If the funds don’t quite stretch to a trip to the home of this aperitif, never fear! Auckland is quickly becoming spritz-central with many of our beloved restaurants serving our fave new cocktail.
Because nothing says summer fun like an Aperol Spritz, we’ve rounded up five of the best spots in Auckland to get the refreshing cocktail—salute!
If you like your cocktail with a view, look no further than Ostro. You have two options in terms of your view: the glistening Waitemata Harbour or Britomart and beyond. We’re particularly fond of finding a perch on The Deck’s summery open balcony and overlooking the city’s skyline. Stunning views, good vibes and refreshing Aperol Spritz…summer doesn’t get much better than this. What’s more, the food here is all sorts of incredible.
Non Solo Pizza
It seems only fitting that Non Solo Pizza, one of Auckland’s best Italian restaurants, is also bringing the orange goodness to diners. Their Aperol Spritz is best enjoyed with one of the restaurant’s signature wood-fired pizza in the sun-drenched courtyard. Be sure to save room for dessert because the tiramisu is not to be missed. Are you in Parnell or are you in Italy? It’s anyone’s guess!
46 & York
Also bringing a taste of Italy to Parnell is 46 & York. This beautiful spot is known for its extensive wine list, exceptional shared plates, fabulous cocktails and refreshing Aperol Spritz. Always adorned with a wedge of orange, a spritz truly is summer in a glass! Come for the Aperol Spritz, stay for the delicious eats. We’re particularly fond of their market fish sliders and cheeseboard—perfect for eating and drinking the arvo away!
City Works Depot
Serving the iconic Italian drink of summer is Odettes Eatery. As with all their drinks, they present their Aperol Spritz in an oh-so pretty (and Instagrammable) way. Visit between Thursday and Saturday from 4pm to 7pm for Aperitivo (aka Italian happy hour). Round up your squad and work your way through their shared plates menu starring the likes of tuna carpaccio, charred kingfish, beef cheek fritters and—of course—Aperol Spritz all summer long.
Ponsonby Road Bistro
Located on the city-side of Ponsonby Road (aka the sunny side), Ponsonby Road Bistro is a perfect pozzy to pass the afternoon away. As day turns to the night, the restaurant becomes delightfully romantic setting for a meal for two. Here you can order an Aperol Spritz as you stare into your lover’s eyes and work your way through the likes of chicken liver pâté and freshly shucked oysters—ooh la la!
Make An Aperol Spritz At Home!
Making an at-home Aperol Spritz is as easy as 3, 2, 1...
3 parts Cinzano Prosecco
2 parts Aperol
1 part soda
Add ice and a thin wedge of orange and all the accolades and high fives from your drinking companions will be yours.
