So, what can you do to feel like you’re experiencing a true winter this year?
With no frozen lakes to skate on this winter in Auckland, we’ve found the best spots for you to glide and show your tricks on some ice!
Whether you’re a born figure skater or one of those people who fall flat on their butt, these rinks will provide the perfect entertainment on a winter’s day in the City of Sails.
Without further ado, here’s where to go ice skating in Auckland.
Paradice Ice Rink
Auckland’s oldest and biggest indoor ice rink, Paradice in Avondale, is the prime place to skate whether you’re experienced or a beginner.
Paradice is large enough to host numerous skaters, and even has skate helpers so you don’t fall flat on your face (don’t worry, we’ve all been there). Don’t fret adults, the skate helpers are available for you too! The venue also has a snack bar and cafe for you to grab a fresh batch of hot chips after you’ve skated yourself out!
Throughout the week, Paradice has different events organised. On Wednesdays they have CheapSkate nights from 8pm - 10pm which only costs $12 with student ID and on weekends they’re open late for night skaters!
Paradice Ice Rink
Don’t worry East Aucklanders, Paradice have a second rink for you to show off your tricks!
On Wednesday nights at Botany you can shoot your friends in a game of laser tag and skate for $15 from 8pm - 10pm. If you’re more into laser tag than ice skating, you can get unlimited laser tag on Friday and Saturday nights from 7pm - 10.30pm for only $15!
Fridays are always a great night for students and even better at Paradice. From 7.30pm - 10.30pm students get to skate on the ice for $12.
Paradice is open every day this winter. However, they do have specific session times for the public to go skating, as it is the home ground for ice hockey teams and figure skaters, so make sure to check before you go!
Most days the rinks are open to the public from 1pm - 4pm in Avondale and 10am - 3.30pm in Botany. Paradice even has late nights some days! For more information on session times and prices, check out the website.
Aotea Square Ice Rink
Aotea Square Ice Rink is back again this year from Friday 15 June to Sunday 22 July.
Found in the heart of the city, Aotea Square Ice Rinks allows you experience a winter wonderland amidst the chaos of Auckland City.
Another year of the Aotea Square Ice Rink means another year of themed activities and events. Skaters and spectators will have the chance to experience the 4th of July Americana party, an ice carnival and more!
As well as another year of skating in the city, the ice rink has opened an Ice Bar (the perfect addition to any activity), which will provide cocktails for adults and mocktails for the kiddies to
sip on and a place to rest after a session skating on the ice.
