Mums are actually the best. They birth you (ouch), raise you, love you, put up with your turbulent teenage years and always, always have your back. This Sunday is your chance to let your mama bear know just how much she means to you and give a massive thanks for everything she’s ever done. And what better way to do it than treating her to an epic day out?

If you’re stuck for ideas for what to do this Mother’s Day in Auckland, we’ve got you (and mum) completely covered. Here’s the best places to take the most important lady in your life this Mother’s Day.

High Tea

Pah Homestead, Hillsborough

Escape the city and pay a visit to the beautifully refurbished Pah Homestead in Hillsborough. You can ooo and aah at the collections in the Wallace Arts Centre, try the new Homestead cafe then go for a wander around the grounds to the Monte Cecilia Park—the perfect spot for mama-offspring d&ms.

Ostro, Britomart

Get dolled up and head to Ostro for a spesh high tea. Pick between 11am or 3pm and expect to be wowed by all the scrumptious morsels on offer, including sweet treats and unique twists on Kiwi classics—pavlova, Veuve Clicquot marshmallow and Manuka honey mascarpone plus savoury profiteroles, washed down with tea and/or bubbly. Favourite child? You know it!

Brunch, Lunch & Dinner

Bird On A Wire, Ponsonby

You and your mum could be among the first to try Bird On A Wire’s new breakfast menu this Sunday. Start the day with stuffed brioche French toast, chilli butter-fried eggs and hash and a hearty breakfast platter for two. It’s sure to become a firm fave for the two of you!

Gusto at the Grand, Auckland CBD

Mamma mia! Treat your mum to an Italian lunch at Gusto at the Grand this Mother’s Day. Staying true to Italian values, Gusto’s rustic four-course set lunch will showcase simple food, classic flavours and fresh ingredients. You’ll find yourself tucking into bruschetta, house-made ricotta, tuna crudo, an orgy of mushrooms and gnocchi, lamb cutlets and a warm chocolate pudding. It will have you and your mama in a happy food coma, Italian style.

Orbit 360° Dining, Auckland CBD

A fair few floors up, Orbit 360° Dining is putting on a three-course lunch from up high. Spend time checking out the sprawling views of our pretty city with a 45-minute Sky Tower admission before settling in for an impressive lunch. Choose from the likes of spicy squid and butternut risotto, Rangitikei corn fed chicken supreme, beef sirloin steak and gluten free gnocchi then end things on a sweet note with strawberry pav, sticky date pudding or a decadent chocolate brownie. Go on, your mum deserves it.

MASU, Auckland CBD

Gather up the fabulous women in your life to experience MASU’s Japanese take on the social Chinese Yum Char tradition. The Nichiyo Brunch will have you nibbling away on sashimi, maki rolls, lamb cutlets, baby back pork ribs and so much more. Bring the little ones in tow because MASU will have plenty of ‘okosama’ bento boxes to keep them busy and full.

Euro, Princes Wharf

If your mama is yet to experience the stellar restaurant that is Euro, Mother’s Day is the day! This classy institution combines stunning views with even better food and a special menu conjured up by Executive Chef Gareth Stewart to help you celebrate your ma. We’re talking fresh strachiatella, wood roast chicken, king terakihi, moreish fried potatoes and a mouth-watering custard pudding with caramelised apple, toffee apple gel, salted caramel and malt sponge. Pair all this with a couple of glasses of bubbly and it will be one heck of a day.

Ebisu, Britomart

Does your mum have a soft spot for Japanese? Ebisu are opening their doors especially for Mother’s Day this Sunday to serve a special three-course lunch. We won’t give too much away but expect their beautiful yuzu brûlée to make an appearance. If you’d rather take your mama out once the sun goes down, Ebisu will have their a la carte menu in full force for dinner. Book now and lock in a table.
