Valentine’s Day is a time of lurvvvve, we get that. Whether you’re contemplating an extravagant display of red roses flecked in gold, or a teddy bear big enough for Leonardo Di Caprio to take shelter in (circa The Revenant) we’re not fussed. For us food loving loonies, there’s only one make-or-break decision that we really care about—where are we gonna eat?!
Marvin wanted his sexual healing and Stevie just wanted to call to say how much he cares, but here at The Urban List, we want to let you know some of the most swoon—worthy and most public PDA places to eat this Valentine’s Day.
Whether you’re loved up, planning a Tinder date or want somewhere to dine for you and your gaggle of single mates, we’ve worked closely with Cupid to deliver a knock-out selection of Valentine’s Day-worthy restaurants.
Devon On The Wharf
Okay, so we may just have found the ultimate, show stopping idea ever. Imagine enjoying a short ferry ride to Devonport, where a short, hand-in-hand stroll leads you to Devon On The Wharf. Here, you’ll find remarkable food and killer views of the skyline. We expect this gorgeous eatery to book up, so don’t hang about—reserve your table now!
The Sugar Club
Situated on the 53rd floor of the Sky Tower, The Sugar Club boasts stellar views of the City of Sails. Match the vista with scrumptious and sophisticated offerings from culinary genius, Peter Gordon, The Sugar Club makes for the perfect Valentine’s Day destination. Hosting a decadent and delicious four-course dinner, this specially-designed menu features the likes of seared venison with tropical, fiery flavours, along with an Asian inspired kingfish dish to start—and that’s not even the half of it!
If there is ever a place to reenact that infamous spaghetti scene from Lady and the Tramp (nawwww), then Coco’s Cantina is it. With red-checkered table cloths, arms-round-each-other ambience, it serves up hearty and homemade portions of spaghetti and meatballs, making it the crème de la crème of romantic restaurants.
Looking to rack up serious brownie points? Look no further. With a great lawn, overlooking Auckland Harbour, beanbags to boot and a hard-to-beat range of wines and sharing platters, Cable Bay certainly makes for a wonderfully, romantic Waiheke experience. Psst, grab a selection of fine cheeses and a bottle of the good stuff to impress the hell out of your date!
Silo Park Cinemas: The Princess Bride
Pull up a pew, cosy on up and get ready for an unforgettable and unique Valentine’s Day experience like no other. Silo Park Cinemas are back and this time are screening one of the most iconic love stories ever—The Princess Bride. Don’t think you’ll be going hungry as some of the best and beloved food vendors will be there, serving up delicious offerings alongside the container bar.
Orbit 360 Dining
Another restaurant sitting pretty, high above Auckland, is Orbit 360 Dining. With rotating views of Auckland (and beyond!), it also has equally incredible food. We reckon Valentine’s Day is as good as sorted. They’re serving up a delicious three-course Valentine’s Day menu, with offerings of an Italian inspired prawn tortellini and a sumptuous and show-stopping beef fillet, which along with everything else, is sure to get a few hearts racing!
Not only are we a fan of all things Hollywood power couple, George and Amal, we’re equally obsessed with Auckland restaurant Clooney, too. Surround yourself in gorgeous interiors and immerse yourself in some of the most inspiring and indulgent food in the city. Yes, it is a complete, special occasion restaurant, but Clooney is certainly worth every single cent.
Forget diamond rings, baskets of puppies and sickly smelling perfume, we’ve found something much better to do this Valentine’s Day. With a breath-taking, six-course degustation menu on offer, featuring delights of duck breast, pork, hock dumping with sweet and sour pineapple and Ora king salmon, Cibo may just steal the heart of your loved one, soz!
What could possibly be more romantic than spoon-feeding your boo tasty, tapas treats in a candle-lit atmosphere? Nothing, that’s what. With ample choice of meatballs, beef cheek empanadas, baked eggplant and paella balls, to name only a few, settle in for the night at Vivace, as you won’t be going anywhere, anytime soon!
The Garden Shed
Set in one of Auckland's most idyllic settings and serving up some of the best nosh this side of town, it’s a bit of a no brainer that The Garden Shed should make an appearance on this list. With a three-course, Valentines Day special menu on offer, complete with a glass of Laurent Perrier Champagne on arrival, immerse yourself in the romance and incredible food.
White Rabbit On The Park
Victoria Park Market
This Drake Street eatery has certainly caught our eye. Not only do White Rabbit On The Park serve up great food and drink on the reg, they have only gone and created a three-course, Valentine’s Day menu for all the love birds out there too. Think salmon ceviche with citrus and avo, pork belly with seared scallops, along with a citrus panna cotta to finish and you’ll be swooning over the food (and your lover!) in no time!
