If you’re anything like us, you’ll understand that coffee is pretty much life. Heck, it’s basically what pulls us from our slumber in the a.m. But, sad news, guys…our beloved coffee could become extinct…in our life time.
This devastating discovery was made by The Climate Institute, who suggest that coffee is on the brink of being no more. Apparently (we’re in denial), coffee could be completely gone by 2080 due to global warming. Gutted.
But why, you ask? Well, there are a couple of reasons. A couple of years back, Central American was hit by a wave of Coffee Leaf Rust, due to unusually high temps, and it damaged more than 50% of the crop. Those poor, poor coffee beans.
What’s more, there’s a pesky pest known as the coffee berry borer, which is causing up to US$500 million of damage annually. And, to make matters worse, by 2050, half of the world’s coffee farming land could be useless. Yep, it’s basically the worst news we’ve ever heard…EVER.
So, clutch onto your espresso shots and get clued up about the impending crisis. Choose carbon-neutral coffee brands that guarantee a fair return to its farms and help them adapt to climate change. This coffee problem ain’t gonna fix itself.
