Today marks National Rosé Day, a special day to celebrate this perfect pink drink! Rosé is at it’s best on these long sun-soaked days, and balmy nights. We can’t think of a better way to enjoy those rays and our new favourite day with a chilled glass or bottle of rosé to make the sunny afternoon melt into night. Previously reserved for the ladies, rosé is fast becoming the summer drink of the moment for summer revelers of both sexes. It’s a rosénaisance we tell ya! Here’s our picks of this summer’s rosés, where to buy ‘em and where to drink ‘em. #DaretoPink #SipNZRose

Two Rivers I'le de Beauté Rosé 2015

If there’s one rosé that you should rush out and buy a case of immediately, this is it. There’s enough drinking-acceptable nights left in summer to justify a case right?! Seriously, this beautifully crisp pale rosé just screams summer and demands to be drunk as cold as possible, preferably with tapas or a large platter of buttery seafood. NZ’s top wine buffs like Raymond Chan, Cameron Douglas and Bob Campbell have all lauded its praises so jump on the bandwagon. Available by the glass at Soul Bar, Café Hanoi and Sails Restaurant (likely to be the ’14 vintage), or by the bottle at O’Connell St Bistro. Available to buy at First Glass and Liquorlands across Auckland.

Akarua Rua Rosé 2015

This juicy rosé just screams strawberries and long arvos spent enjoying the sun. Made from our greatest pinot growing region—Central Otago—this is a sophisticated rosé perfect to celebrate reaching Friday afternoon. Pick up the strawberry notes in this pretty pink by pairing with a berry dessert—we’re thinking eton mess for this vibrant beauty. Available to buy at Liquorlands and Glengarry's across Auckland. Try Akarua’s main label rosé at Nomad in Pt Chev while it lasts—the vineyard themselves have sold out of it!

Gibbston Valley Rosé 2015

With a brighter salmon pink hue this drop is beautiful in the glass. It’s got a berry flavor, but remains slight dry and not too fruity – just perfect for a scorching afternoon. Rosés tend to be best suited to a pre-dinner tipple and while this beautiful bot would be great with a cheeseboard, it’s conveniently suited to a variety of cuisines and is very food-friendly. The 2014 vintage is available by the glass at The Glass Goose. 2015 available to buy at Bacchus Upland Village, Remuera.

Ara Single Estate Rosé 2015

This is the only the second year that Ara has produced rosé, but they’ve come hot out of the blocks. It's rather dry, making it perfect as your afternoon apertivo. If you’re wanting to serve it with food, match this beauty with an heirloom tomato and burrata salad. Available by the glass at Didas Wine Bar, Lucky Buddha and Regatta Bar (both currently serving the 2014 vintage) and to buy at Glengarry and Liquorland stores across Auckland.

Man O'War Pinque Rosé 2015

This delicate rosé is incredibly light but fruity in flavor. This is a rosé we’d suggest you indulge in on its own, one long Sunday afternoon when the sunshine is roaring and let any thoughts on the looming Monday disappear. It is different from the first rosés on this list as it’s made from the more robust Merlot and Malbec grapes which grow so well on Waiheke, as opposed to Pinot Noir grapes. Available by the glass at Mr Toms, Coley & Punch, One Tree Grill, Wine Chambers and Miss Clawdy's. Available to buy at Farro Fresh and The Village Winery, Mt Eden.

Rochfort Rees

Scarily easy to drink is our old mate Rochfort Rees. So stylish in his little bottle, he beckons us all too often at many of our favourite bars. Best enjoyed at a table in the sun on ice with perfect company and brilliant chat. Try to get your hands on one of their iceblocks made in collaboration with Nice Blocks this summer – a driving-friendly option at only 3% alcohol. Available by the glass at SPQR, 46&York, Meadow and Britomart Country Club. Available to buy at Herne Bay Cellars and Liquorlands across Auckland.

SOHO Westwood Rosé

SOHO’s Westwood Waiheke Rosé 2015 seems to be a serious girl about town at the moment, popping up on wine lists left, right and centre. Little surprise given it’s bright raspberry colour and bold flavour—ladies, you’ll love this one. Available by the glass at Chapel Bar, Botswana Butchery, Scarlett Slimms & Lucky and The Occidental Vulcan Lane. Available to buy at Farro Fresh, Liquor King and Glengarry.

Passage Rock Rosé 2015

With a beautiful orange-pink colour and a peachy scent, this is yet another fabulous Waiheke rosé. Grab a bottle of this beautifully hued drop to accompany your next picnic. We also think this would be gorgeous with a simple package of fish’n chips. Especially if calamari is involved. Available by the glass at The Conservatory and Hotel De Brett Housebar. Available to buy at New World and Liquorlands across Auckland.

Amisfield Rosé

Worth the higher price point, the Amisfield Rosé has hints of our favourite summer fruits—watermelon and strawberry. You’ll want to enjoy this beauty with a Mediterranean style tapas spread with olives and feta cheese as the salt will really enhance those flavours. Available by the glass at Mr Toms, Prego, Street Food Collective and Bedford Soda & Liquor, and to buy at Farro Fresh, Caro’s, First Glass and Liquorlands across Auckland

Stoneleigh Pinot Noir Rosé 2015

To finish off, we have a more affordable option for you – perhaps your new mid-week rosé of choice? Stoneleigh’s available at the big supermarchés and seems to be eternally on special. This budget bot was awarded with a Pure Silver medal at the recent AirNZ awards, beating out far more exclusive, limited (and more expensive!) alternatives.  Available by the glass at The Empire, Freeman and Grey, The Dominion, The Longroom. Available to buy at New World.
