Auckland’s family-friendly summer Splore festival is back for 2018, hosted at the beautiful Tapapakanga Park in Orere. This sustainable and green three-day concert (23rd – 25th Feb) sits beachside has an epic line-up that we’re seriously excited about.
Here’s our guide to what not to miss at this year’s Splore Festival.
Music is at the heart of Splore and some of the best international and Kiwi artists will be taking to the festival’s six stages. From electronica and hip hop to reggae and blues, there is literally something for everyone. Make sure your ears don’t miss out on these rad acts:
Headlining Splore 2018 and on the back of his latest album, Raskit, Dizzee Rascal is hitting our shores for the first time in five years. Hailing from the UK, Rascal is known as one of the best MC’s in the business and we can’t wait to catch him on Friday night at Splore this year.
Reggae artist Chronixx will be making an appearance at Splore in between his sold out shows across Europe. A true entertainer on stage, Chronixx preaches to the masses about important issues such as racism and poverty during his sets. For some Bob Marely vibes, catch Chronixx on Sunday at Splore.
Omar w/ Mark De Clive Lowe
The dynamic duo will set the stage on fire with Omar’s soulful tones and MDCL’s dancefloor beats. Omar will be making his NZ debut, while MDCL will be returning to his hometown of Auckland after major success in London. For a jazz/dance fusion that will have you up and dancing, make sure you don’t miss these two on Saturday night.
Too Many Zooz
The New York City buskers that went viral on YouTube will also be making their NZ debut in Feb 2018. Bringing their self-defined “brass house” music to our shores, this much anticipated trio has played with the likes of Beyoncé and Kaskades so we can say we’re definitely excited to see them at Splore!
Noms And Dranks
All that partying is guaranteed to make one hungry. Thankfully, some of our favourite food vendors will be there to refuel your bellies and keep you hydrated. You’ll find us lined up at these food trucks:
You don’t have to go without your morning coffee at Splore. Miller’s Coffee, an Allpress Caravan and Tinman will be there for all your caffeine needs. If you’re more into green smoothies, Organic Mechanic and Riversea Acai have your back.
The Brunch Banquet
Held on both the Saturday and the Sunday, the brunch banquet at store is shaping up to be an umissable foodie occasion. Boasting Marcel’s pancakes with sour cream, salmon gravlax and chives, a muesli station with fresh blueberry and peaches and an entire ‘hot selection’ boasting eggs, bacon, hash browns and the rest. The drinks bar offers coffee and tea for the strugglers and Culley’s and Smirnoff Bloody Mary’s, Mimosas and Batchwell Kombucha for those after something extra.
The Dinner Banquet
Held exclusively on Saturday night, the dinner banquet is the perfect way to take your festy experience up another notch. On arrival you’re greeted with Clevedon Oysters and a Smirnoff cocktail to clench the thirst. From Culley's glazed salmon to chicken ballotine with Food Snob Sicilian olives and lemon stuffing through to marinted vine tomatoes with feta, toasted pinenuts and basil salad—the main menu is something to salivate over. With Jed's coffee tiramisu and a Summer fruit selection to end, cocktails and brews have never gone down so nicely.
Cuisine From All Four Corners
Whatever cuisine you’re into, there’s a high chance Splore will be serving it up! It wouldn’t be a festival without Langos serving up Hungarian bread puffs—mm deep-fried goodness. Enjoy a generous serve of flavoursome Spanish cuisine from Paella Pan and make sure you try Jamaican Me Hungry’s spicy jerk chicken before the end of the weekend.
Calling All Vegetarians
If you’re a vegetarian, you won’t go hungry at Splore! Everyone’s favourite vege-friendly food truck, One Love, will be serving up their famous curries, while Falafel Bros dishes are heavenly. Make the summer sun more tolerable by sucking on a vegan Nice Block, made with coconut cream.
