Ah, October. Spring is finally here, there’s jasmine in the air and the weather is warming up without being all-out boiling yet. It really is the perfect time. And because everyone knows this, there are heaps of awesome things to do in Brisbane this month to take full advantage of it. Here are 10 of the best events happening this October:
#1 Disney Karaoke
If you know all the words to the tunes from Frozen, The Lion King, Aladdin and The Little Mermaid your time to shine is here. Although not mandatory, I’d say the Disney-themed karaoke night at the Southside Tea Room definitely requires dress ups.
Where: Southside Tea Room, Morningside
When: Friday, 21 October from 8pm
#2 The Room Screening
Despite being considered the worst movie of all time, The Room sure gets featured a lot. If you haven’t had a chance to watch it yourself and throw the obligatory spoons at the screen (it’s a thing) then 2016 is your time.
Where: New Globe Theatre, Fortitude Valley
When: October 7, 6:30pm
#3 Brisbane Open House
Do you dream of sticky-beaking inside all of Brisbane’s most amazing buildings? Open House 2016 brings you the opportunity to go behind the scenes at some of our city’s architectural gems including the Queensland Art Gallery, the Roundhouse Theatre and the Fort Lytton Military Precinct.

#4 New Farm Handball Festival
If you were the undisputed king of handball back in the ‘90s you’ve got a chance to prove it at the New Farm Handball Festival on Sunday October 16. This event is run as a Mental Health Week activity and is a great opportunity to have some lighthearted fun.

#5 Caxton Street Festival 2016
The iconic Caxton Street Festival is back for another year with heaps of live music, delicious food and pop-up bars. With over 10,000 people expected to rock up, it should be an epic party.

#7 The Louis Theroux’s ‘My Scientology Movie’
Known for it’s brilliant film offerings, the GOMA Cinematheque will be showing British journalist Louis Theroux’s hit new documentary, My Scientology Movie. Theroux’s behind the scenes access into this intriguing world needs to be seen to be believed.

Throw on your running shoes and get set to walk in support of Mental Health awareness on October 9. Starting at Captain Burke Park in Kangaroo Point, Walk For Awareness is an 8km stroll that winds around beautiful Brisbane scenery and raises money for a good cause.
