The days are getting longer now which means more weekend time, doesn’t it? This weekeknd in Brisbane you can’t go wrong with a cute AF puppy picnic or a good shop at the markets for that matter. With Christmas just around the corner, the festive themes are coming in hot and are ready to help get your shopping done early this year (or, like us, just enjoy the atmosphere and then freak out a week before the big day)… Here's what’s on in Brisbane this weekend.

Thursday 17th November

Indian International Film Festival of Queensland

Get your Bollywood on with this eclectic Indian film festival! There is nothing quite like the entertainment of an Indian movie and this festival will show it all. Impress your date with how cultured you are and head to one of the outdoor theatre screenings for a fun night out.

When: November 16th-20th

Far From Folsom 

Fun fact: the 'man in black' himself, Johnny Cash, came to Australia 45 years ago and played at set of his most iconic songs, At Folsom Prison to inmates at Boggo Road Gaol. To celebrate the life and music of Johnny Cash, international singer songwriter, Tex Perkins will bring his tour, Far From Folsom and the music of Johnny Cash back to Boggo this weekend. Recreating a moment in music history, this is a performance not to be missed!

Friday 18th November

Brooky Bite Nite

It's happy days for the west-siders every third Friday of the month when their Brooky Bite Nite gets going! Brookfield Showgrounds welcomes different food trucks every month so if you add some drinks and friends, it sounds like an awesome Friday night to us!

House of Mirrors 

Get lost in the Brisbane Powerhouse’s House of Mirrors this weekend with the insanely cool walk-through installation that is set to confuse, delight and maybe freak you out a little bit. The optical illusion maze is part of the Wonderland Festival happening throughout November but it’s only on for one week! You can laugh, cry and check your makeup at every corner with this one!  

When: November 18th, 8pm-10pm; 19th, 9am-10pm; 20th, 12pm-8pm; 22nd-25th, 2pm-10pm

Eats and Beats Christmas Festival

Logan is getting festive already with Eats and Beats turning their usual foodie fair into a Christmas wonderland for the next five weeks (yes, that is how many Fridays there are until Christmas—freak out!). Christmas markets, carols and Santa Claus will be there to beef up the Christmas cheer, adding to the already awesome Friday night that is Eats and Beats. We can smell the Christmas spirit from here!

When: November 18th-16th (Every Friday), 5pm-9pm

Saturday 19th November

Puppy Picnic in the Park

FACT: Puppies bring happiness. So what happens when there is a whole picnic with puppies? Actual heaven. Get your fix at this weekend’s Puppy Picnic in the Park with Little Legs Rescue! Cuddle, play and adopt your way through the day with the heaps of gorgeous fur balls set to take over New Farm Park. Learn about what you can do to help the pups that need a home through foster care and adoption, or just go and hang out with the some cuties for a while.

Flying Paloma Pop-Up

If you're looking to update your home, or even your wardrobe, with a pop of colour then you need to get to Flying Paloma's Pop-Up shop this weekend! Sourcing colourful and unique textiles, handwoven African baskets, Mexican otomis, Suzanis, plus a range of bespoke clothing items and accessories. Flying Paloma is known for one-of-a-kind pieces that wow. Be wuick though, they're only around for one weekend only!

Prawn Festival

Feeling prawny? Head down to Manly for a festival of the seafood kind! Manly Deck Bar and Restaurant is dedicating their day to the humble prawn and all of its possibilities.
