With another week comes another weekend, and with another 48 hours of freedom comes a brand new line up of killer events to attend. Though the work week might seem like it will never end (seriously, can it just already?), this weekend in Brisbane features Aussie bands, nostalgic musicals, movie marathons, discos, festivals, and plenty of grilled cheese to celebrate and make the most of your precious days off.

Elemental With Akasha

Ashaka Brewing Co is turning 3 and to celebrate they will be inviting The Culprit Club to bring the elements to life. Over four nights, four artists will add the essence of earth, fire, wind and water to a massive custom-made canvas. The innovative artwork will be fuelled by none other than the fifth element of life: beer. Stop by for some quality brews and an artsy birthday celebration.

Little Big Thursdays At Little Big House

After a stellar kick-off last month, Little Big House is bringing back its (very big) house party tonight—and every Thursday night after that, actually! Here's the deal: free pool, free karaoke, free entry AND, free DJ sets from some of the country's best, no biggie. LBH, you spoil us! Naturally, the kitchen will also be staying open late (if you haven't yet tried their chicken parmie spring rolls, you haven't bloody lived), so get yourself down to South Brisbane for the biggest Thursday night you've had in a long time.

Ipswich Festival

Bigger, bolder and even better than last year, Ipswich Festival is back to light up your social life in 2018! Kicking things off this evening with 'Fire on the River', the fabulous family-friendly fireworks and light show, things then continue to ramp up into the weekend, with music performances, workshops, kids events, food pop-ups, art exhibitions, even cabaret shows happening right across the city of Ipswich. Be you a local looking for a culture hit, or you're a first-timer keen to see what all the hoo ha is about, we promise you you'll have a total blast.

Friday 13 April

American Idiot

All you Green Day fans listen up; American Idiot is back and jam-packed with all of your grungy faves. This award-winning show follows the story of three friends struggling to find meaning in post 9/11 America, all set to the music of Green Day. Relive the angst of naughties rock with this utterly brilliant show.

Friday 13th Movie Marathon

Yep, Friday the 13th is upon us, and we all know there is no better way to spend it than with some classic horrors to scare ourselves senseless. Metro Arts will be showing the 80’s classic Nightmare on Elm street, followed by The Crow. Get your fix of bad special effects, an extremely young Johnny Depp, and some legendary films in this Friday 13th movie marathon.

Blak Friday

Part of Festival 2018 is Blak Friday, a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures through the performing arts. Blak Friday will showcase both legendary and up and coming artists within the community, through the mediums of dance, music, storytelling and more. For a night of impactful entertainment, head to the Festival Hub in South Brisbane this Friday.

Silent Disco

If you have never been to a silent disco, (please bear with us here, folks) you need to hit up Down Under Bar this Friday. No, really. There will be three DJs in the house, simultaneously playing three completely different styles of music. Just come through the door, put on the headphones, and choose from the Top 40, Hip Hop jams, or Indie & Old school. Not only do you essentially get to pick the tunes, but taking the headphones off and watching everyone silently gyrate to totally different beats is probably the funniest thing you will see on a night out. Don't even get us started on the DU Bar regulars...

Valley Multicultural Festival

To wrap up Youth Week that has been celebrating Brisbane’s emerging generation over the past week, the Valley Multicultural Festival will be taking over Chinatown Mall this Saturday. The festival will be focusing on local youth acts that showcase a variety of world cultures. Stop by for an evening of diverse entertainment, from dance to fire shows, and of course plenty of amazing food.

The Preachers

One of Sydney’s most beloved bands, The Preachers, will be hitting up Brisbane as a part of Festival 2018. Usually seen busting out bangers on the world’s festival stages, The Preachers will be doing a live set absolutely free to celebrate The Commonwealth Games and Australian culture. Check them out at The Orbit Stage this Saturday.

National Grilled Cheese Day

If you don’t believe in heaven, the Melt Brothers are about to prove you wrong. They will be selling a selection of their delicious grilled cheese toasties for 50% off this Saturday. Choose from the Mouse Trap, Holy Cheesus, Shake That Hass, and Morning Glory to sink your teeth into and get into the spirit of this day filled with cheese, glorious cheese.

The 7 Sopranos

If you are a fan of opera or just want to attend an upscale event this weekend, The 7 Sopranos will be performing Opera In The Gardens this Sunday afternoon. Bring a picnic and find a spot in one of Brisbane’s most gorgeous gardens as you listen to 7 angelic voices and help raise money for the Rotary Clubs of Brisbane.
