Spring has officially sprung, and the amount of things to do in Brisbane is mind boggling, people! There's no better time to venture out of those chilly Queenslanders, shed a couple of layers and enjoy the warmer weather coming in fast. From vegan festivals to a camping trip you won't forget, plus celebrating all the fathers out there, this weekend is going to be a big one! Here are some awesome things to do this weekend in Brisbane. 

Thursday 1st

Aqua S Pop-Up 

Prepare you taste buds, Brisbane, Aqua S—infamous in Sydney for their incredible soft serve—is coming to the Wintergarden! If you haven’t been on Instagram lately (highly unlikely) and you’re asking yourself what on earth is so special about their ice cream, then you need to check yourself! Think sea salt flavoured soft serve surrounded by a cloud of fairy floss, sprinkled with popping candy—holy floss! Get excited Brisbane, Aqua S is popping up for one day only. Be there, or surrender to the fomo. Up to you...

Friday 2nd

Look Mum… No Hands!

Comedy meets music in this hilarious performance from Indel-ABILITY ARTS. Four local Brisbane artists, all who identify as having a disability have co-written and will perform the interactive show ‘Look Mum… No Hands!’ for one night at Redland Performing Arts Centre and then for a four day season at the Brisbane Powerhouse. They’ll tell heart-warming stories about the struggles and successes of living and working with a disability in a cracking good show for all!

When: September 2nd, 11am and September 7th-10th, 7pm

Alliance Francaise Classic Film Festival

Brisbane’s famous film festival is mixing things up this year, showcasing blonde beauties of classic French cinema. There is no denying that hand-picked favourites featuring Brigitte Bardot, Catherine Deneuve, Jean Seberg, Romy Schneider and Simone Signoret give iconic French film that certain je ne sais quoi. Opening night starts with ‘Lovers Like Us’—perfect for a ladies night!

Saturday 3rd 

Horror Movie Campout

From chainsaw-wielding madmen to machete-swinging clowns, you could say that the Horror Movie Campout is a film festival with a definite twist. This fully immersive festival experience aims to pretty much scare the shit out of its eager punters while they enjoy the thrills of horror movies galore with the company of severed limbs. How grand! The organisers warn you to take a spare pair of undies with you, so we’ll let you figure out if this one is right for you or not…

The Wellness Festival

With the sold-out success of its Melbourne debut, The Wellness Festival is a jam-packed feel good day out, heading north on tour to Brisbane. Hooray! Leading female entrepreneurs and health experts are set to show you the ropes in all things health, business and personal growth to get you filled to the brim with inspiration and knowledge. A lunchtime sweat sesh will get your heart racing, and a nourishing feed will keep you going all day to kick start your best self into action.

Brisbane Festival

Brisbane Festival is finally here! It’s time to feast all of your senses on the massive program they have ready for the next three weeks. From every singing, dancing show you can find, to the fabulous food, to the epic Sunsuper Riverfire finale, this year is going to be HUGE. Catch work from big names such as Pharell Williams (Pharell, guys!) in Rules of the Game and Hugh Sheridan in California Crooners Club while La Boite runs you through a bloody reimagining of Snow White. Just try and squeeze in everything into your September, we dare you!

Sunday 4th 

Le Petite Cochon Cooking Class

You can forget about the socks that you are no doubt considering getting your dad for Father’s Day, because Golden Pig Food & Wine School have you covered. Their Nose to Tail cooking class will show you and your papa the ins and outs of finding the best cuts of a pig and cooking up a porky feast for the whole family. Top off the lesson by enjoying the main attraction (the pig) with a few brews with your dad for a Father’s Day he definitely won’t forget.

BrisVegan Fest 2016

The Brisbane vegan event of the year is on this weekend to cater to all of your cruelty-free desires. Whether you are vegan, vegetarian or just testing the waters of the veg life, BrisVegan Fest accommodates for all. With music performances, cooking demonstrations and kids entertainment all day, it’s a family fun day for the animal lover in all of us!

Secret Sounds BIGSOUND Opening Night Party

Every year, Fortitude Valley gets booming with the annual BIGSOUND conference and festival, and Secret Sounds are ready to start the party right. They’re calling in big guns Tkay Maidza, Harts, Ecca Vandal and Oh Pep! to help them out along with cream of the crop DJs for a killer opening night. Walk For Awareness

Join the Mental Awareness Foundation’s largest fundraising event that's in its 6th year! Walk For Awareness is a fantastic 8 km walk around the winding Brisbane river in support of those in the community who suffer from mental illness and to help fund programs pushing to make a difference. Take a stroll and enjoy the spring air for a good cause, it’s as easy as that!

Swig and Nibble

In a collaboration bursting with talent, energy and all round good food, Swig and Nibble is a food lover’s event not to be missed. This exclusive dining experience brings together the fine dining skills of Michelin trained chef Kevin of Bali’s Cuca restaurant and the passion of Sam Coverdale as the winemaker and owner of Polperro in Red Hill. Spread over three days, this event will showcase the bursting flavours of the Mornington Peninsula and partnered with the finest hand-picked local wines. Ooh-La-La!
