Lunar New Year Celebrations

It is time to revamp your resolutions and dust off your party hat because the Lunar New Year has rolled around already and Brisbane will be celebrating in style. The big event will be celebrated in all places and forms over the weekend, from temples to racecourses to Fat Dumpling (the latter would be my first choice).

Roaring Twenties Valentines Screening

Modern romance can be tricky, what with social media, the newest tech, and the internet in general creating constant distractions. To celebrate Valentines, Metro Arts is giving you the opportunity to take it back to basics, and we mean real basic, like before film had sound basic. Be transported on a romantic evening watching silent film classics accompanied with a live pianist to really set the mood.

Love and Other Crimes

Stop by Betty’s this Friday night for a queer arts exhibition and fundraiser by the name of Love and Other Crimes. The evening will be sparking a cultural conversation about the current climate in the Australian queer arts community and how that reflects our culture as a whole. 100% of the proceeds will be going to Open Doors Youth Services Inc and the Jelly Beans Program, so spend this weekend broadening your cultural horizons for a good cause.

The Mountain Goat Valley Crawl

Back for their third year and counting is the now iconic Mountain Goat Valley Crawl. Hit the Val this Saturday night with a hefty crew at your back and discover your new favourite local band. With scheduled stops at local classics such as The Flying Cock, Black Bear Lodge, and The Brightside there will be 35 artists playing the soundtrack to your greatest night out yet.

Forecast: An Australian Convergence

Settle in for an evening of contemporary dance hailing from Singapore and Queensland. The performance will showcase the bond our two countries share due to our spots across the equator in the Asia Pacific. Including work from T.H.E Dance Company, The Farm, EDC, and Daniel Kok, this show isn’t one to miss if you are a lover of contemporary dance.

Summer Party

If there is anything South Bank needs more of, it is Cosplay, K-pop, and synchronised mermaids. BrisAsia is making our dreams come true with their Summer Party this Saturday night. As well as plenty of talented performers, the night’s festivities will also include a fashion show, dance crews, and a free screening of the new anime Fireworks. See you there!

The theme this year is ‘Asia and the Mindful Century’, so prepare to be uplifted, illuminated, and challenged in this celebration of Brisbane’s evolving identity.

Gin Sanity

We have noticed the trend that Brisbane has gone gin mad over the last couple of months and we couldn’t be more on board! Bakery Lane will be hosting their Gin Sanity Festival this Saturday for all the gin fiends of Brisbane. Urban Wine Walk Brisbane

With Valentines Day reminding us all of just how lonely our life life is and the lunar new year reminding us of just how many resolutions we have already given up on, we good use a glass of wine… or ten. Luckily Neighbourhood Events Co. have put together a wine walk spanning across Brisbane City for those of us who love a good drop (let’s be real, who doesn’t?). Locations of note are Greenglass, The Laneway, La Lune, and plenty others for you to smell the bouquet and carefully sip away as you pretend to know the difference between a shiraz and a pinot.

String Symphony

Setting up shop in front of the Brisbane Powerhouse this Sunday evening is the massive interactive performance installation String Symphony. The installation will come in the form of a giant puppet, controlled by 12 strings that will be handed over to the audience to do with what they will. Stop by to see this truly impressive piece of interactive art.
