Even with the Ekka in full swing, there are still so many awesome things to do in Brisbane this weekend! From foreign film festivals, to Broadway shows, K-Pop concerts to music gigs, Brisbane is really flexing its culture muscles over the next seven days.

Here’s what’s on this weekend in Brisbane.

Thursday 11th

Royal Brisbane Show

In case you haven’t noticed, we're pretty darn excited for the Ekka, and this year’s Royal Queensland Show is absolutely HUGE. With all your old favourites and then some, good old fashioned fun is not overrated! Check out the fashion shows, Zumbo’s dessert village and all of the delicious local fare you can fit in your belly, then stick around for the fireworks, strawberry sundaes and sideshow alley. The Ekka finishes this Sunday before saying goodbye for another year, so get in quick!

RAW Brisbane Presents Reveal

Brisbane’s indie arts scene is totally booming right now, and RAW knows a thing or two about a good time. This indie arts organisation is hosting Reveal; a showcase night for the unearthed talent of Brisbane. From music, to hair and makeup, RAW has left no stone unturned with their hand-picked selection of creative, young gems ready to flaunt their stuff.

Friday 12th

Guillaume Brahimi Gourmet Getaway

The stunning Halcyon House in Byron Bay is playing host to internationally acclaimed chef Guillaume Brahimi for a weekend of fabulous feasting (we're so excited, we even wrote about it!). Join Brahimi as he creates, frankly, the dishes of your dreams, as you lounge around the beautiful location that is Halcyon House. The official Showcase Dinner event will be served on the Saturday evening, but if you'd like to make a getaway of it, then a weekend package including a two night stay, daily a la carte breakfast, drinks and canapes by the pool on the Friday evening, a masterclass with Brahini himself including lunch, plus seats at the Showcase Dinner, is a very real, very enticing option! Cine Latino Festival 

Can’t get enough of the Rio Olympics? Balance out all that sport you’ve been watching and spend a night indulging in some Latin American film. Brought to you by Palace Cinemas, Cine Latino is Australia’s first Latin American film festival showcasing the best in film from Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Colombia and more! Opening night will begin with Chile’s Neruda (also selected for the Cannes Film Festival 2016—not too shabby!) and will continue for two weeks so you can switch up between sport and film at will.

Saturday 13th

Korean Cultural Festival 2016

Enjoy a slice of South Korea this weekend in Brisbane at the Korean Cultural Festival at King George Square. Let the insanely catchy tunes of K-Pop get stuck in your head (and practice your killer dance moves), tuck in to some delicious, authentic Korean food, and get ready to practise your taekwondo moves!

Mt Gravatt Marketta

Saturday nights at Mt Gravatt are getting spiced up with Brisbane's newest food market; the Mt Gravatt Marketta! The love child of the Mt Gravatt Show Grounds and the Gold Coast Marketta will be serving up 'top shelf' goods; crazy-good street food, local and international beers and wine, freshly mixed cocktails, and a side of live music to boot!

BoulderFest 2016

Fancy yourself a rockclimbing rockstar like Cruisey in Mission Impossible 2? If so, do we have a climbing challenge for you! Pull on your best spandex and head down to Urban Climb in Milton for a day of competative rock wall climbing, in the wildest and most challenging course yet! Anyone from beginners to the most experienced climbers are encouraged to sign up to compete on the day, and for those of you that like to keep their feet firmly on the ground, there will be various pop-up food stalls and a beer garden to keep you more than satisfied.

Sunday 14th

Living Science 

In ode of National Science Week, Living Science at Eagle Farm Racecourse is the perfect morning to get the kids (and big kids alike) involved in some rad science experiments. Feed your inner nerd and learn about the links between food, science and technology, and get your hands dirty partaking in an experiment or two. From make-your-own fizzing lollies to extracting DNA from a strawberry (seriously!?), you'll get to meet real life scientists and get to check out some pretty flash technology. A fun morning out for all!

Monday 15th

The team at THR1VE have got all of our backs this week making it possible to have a super tasty, not to mention healthy, lunch for the bargain price of $5. Against The Grain Festival

The Valley's fave laneway is upping its game even further by hosting the all new Against The Grain Festival. For three nights Grain will present a lineup of some of Australia's best alternative musical and visual artists, including the likes of Major Leagues and The Jensens. It's not really a festival without a good drink, and Laruche has got you covered with Young Henry's and Sailor Jerry's providing refreshments all weekend long. Cheers!

Straight White Men 

Crossing the pond from the US (Broadway, to be precise), Straight White Men was named part of The New York Times Top 10 and has found it's way to our fair city. This hilarious stage comedy packs a comical and cultural punch, and is a must for any theatre buff.

Caloundra Music Festival Warm Up Sessions

Caloundra's best venues are banding together to host the perfect appetizers for the feast that is the 10th Annual Caloundra Music Festival! Satisfy your hunger for live music for the next two months, with seventy three sessions (you heard right!) from up and coming artists in and around the Sunshine Coast. It's like a 73-course music tasting menu!

The Alliance Française Classic Film Festival

After the success of The Alliance Française Classic Film Festival last year in Sydney, this fabulous French festival is going national. "Les Blondes" is the theme this year, displaying the infinitely talented women of French film who pretty much invented the saying 'blondes have more fun'. Think Brigitte Bardot in Viva Maria! and Catherine Deneuve in Lovers Like Us. There is no doubt that French film has that certain je ne sais quoi making this festival a cinephile's dream.

Brisbane Festival

We’ve been watching September on our calendars fill up for weeks now, because the more we see what Brisbane Festival 2016 has to offer, the more we know we can’t miss out! The program is filled to the brim with art, dance, cabaret, music and theatre. If only we could make September come sooner!
