Southern Italy Wine Dinner at Il Locale

No one does it quite like the Southern Italians and Il Locale is going to show you why. Their Southern Italy Wine Dinner will have you living the life with the wine and food that has made this little corner of the world so famous. Enjoy a four-course dinner matched perfectly to seven Italian wines from Sicily, Puglia and Campania. Molto bene!

Unbuttoned: A Festival of Gender, Art and You

Presented by Metro Arts and Brisbane Festival, Unbuttoned is a four day event filling the heritage-listed warehouse on Edward St with art, film and the sweet sounds of ‘femioke’. Book tickets to a talk on gender or to Betty Grumble’s award-winning sex clown cabaret (yes, you read that right). Keen to hold on to that cash? No worries! You can wander through the six-story building for free, exploring all the saucy, fun, thought-provoking, kooky delights you can find.

Friday September 16th

GOMA’s Cindy Sherman Up Late

If you’re looking for an awesome way to spend your Friday night that doesn’t involve the usual pyjamas, Netflix and a glass of wine, then get your friends together at GOMA an after-hours special event. DJ collective Cheated Hearts will provide the tunes while you enjoy the Cindy Sherman exhibition, get glammed up at the pop-up styling booth and listen to a Storytellers’ talk before heading to the main stage and grooving to the coolest headline female musicians around. Sampa The Great is up this weekend and with a bar serving up food and drinks all night, you can even still enjoy that wine (minus the pyjamas and Netflix).

Laruche Turns 7!

It’s Laruche’s birthday and this cocktail lounge of coolness is ready to party all weekend. To celebrate, these guys are getting funky and becoming Planet Laruche, a retro futuristic disco playground for all. Dress in your sleekest spacesuit and get ready for lift off…

Oktoberfest at Bavarian Bier Café Eagle Street Pier

Oktoberfest is coming fast and we would be lying if we said we didn’t have our lederhosens and dirndls ready to go. This year, Bavarian Bier Café Eagle Street Pier are teaming up Munich Brauhaus in Sydney and Melbourne to bring us Australia’s biggest Oktoberfest party. Kicking off with the traditional Oktoberfest keg-tapping on September 16, the festivities will run for 6 weeks and feature seriously large eating contests, family fun days and five different kinds of limited edition Bavarian bier. You can also go in the draw to win a trip to Bavaria if you try all five of the biers—like you needed an excuse.

Ink Remix

Traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy is getting a modern revamp as young artists get in touch with the simplicity and beauty of ink art at the Museum of Brisbane. The work of 14 artists from mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong were collated to produce the Ink Remix exhibition. From animation and video to paint and biro pens, the pieces all represent the simple art form, transformed into a unique reflection of modern day art. If you love art and Asian culture, this is not one to be missed.

Beer InCider Experience 2016

Beer InCider Experience is the beer and cider event of the year and it’s on this weekend. Yes! Beer paddles at the ready, this festival is a quadruple threat with the best local beer, cider, food and music to go around for a whole two days. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy a good brew and a good time with your friends. Sit out on the grass and let the good times roll!

Bedouin Market Bazaar

Your Saturday morning plans should most definitely involve a trip to the Bedouin Market Bazaar. Hosted by the ever spacious and ever cute Bedouin Brew coffee shop/warehouse, the market will have all local businesses showing off their wares. With everything from candles, henna and jewellery, it’s going to be a treat best enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee.

Big Adopt Out

In their biggest event yet, the Big Adopt Out is bringing together over 30 rescue and welfare groups to help find new families for homeless animals across Queensland. With food trucks, pet advice and more than 250 cats and dogs available to adopt, you can find your new best friend and have an awesome time doing it. You can just go and take in all the puppy love, but be warned that you may walk out with a cat and a dog under each arm anyway—how could you resist?
