World Science Festival Brisbane

Calling all science queens of Brisbane, the World Science Festival has begun! Head to South Bank’s Cultural Precinct and cram your brains full of mind blowing knowledge this weekend. Running until Sunday, the festival will delve into the unknown depths of space and time, so if you are into that kind of thing you should bring your posse along and educate yourself on the wonders of science.

Rosé And Cheese Festival

Rosé. Cheese. What more is there to life? Welcome To Bowen Hills has done it again, filling their weekend to the brim with pink, sparkly drinks and deliciously gooey dairy products. Featuring the scrumptious handiwork of legends such as Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers with some cheesy af gnocchi, Tastes of Africa with deep fried camembert, and of course, Mac ‘n cheese from Mac From Way Back.

Flaex Pop Up

There is no better way to spend a weekend than at a good pop up. Australian linen brand Flaex will be setting up shop in Newstead from Thursday to Saturday. Stop by for the rare chance to try on some of the handmade garments, and drop by on Thursday night for a cheeky champagne shopping evening.

Back in Australia is the ridiculously hilarious Stephen K Amos. This time round he has decided to be your distraction from all that is troubling the world. What with Brexit, Trump, and the constant possibility of nuclear destruction hanging over our heads, our old mate Steve knows we could use a good laugh, and will be providing that service at Brisbane Powerhouse for this weekend only.

Nicely complimenting the World Science Festival is the Transitions Film Festival, taking place at New Farm Cinemas from Friday to Sunday. The theme for the festival is ‘Visions For A Better World’, showcasing eight impactful documentaries that will enlighten you on their revolutionary subjects.

Late Night Thrift

Studio Thrifty 4 is back with yet another Late Night Thrift for all us second hand shopping fiends to get our next fix. Once again, there will be champagne at the door and all the proceeds will be going to a good cause. Only change is that there will be an early bird special: those who buy tickets will get a one hour window pre-general-public to scoop up all the best goods!

Marie Claire Up Late 2018

Another one for fashion lovers, Marie Claire is hosting a pop-up with James Street this Thursday night and we are here for it! On top of after-hours shopping with discounts and specials galore, Marie Claire will be giving away no less than 1000 handbags, announcing the details on the night. The pop-up will wrap up with a live performance from Haiku Hands at 8pm, so stick around for some poetic jams to cap off a brilliant night.

Mountainfilm On Tour

Can’t get enough of Planet Earth? Satisfy your cravings for gratuitous landscape shots at this year’s Mountainfilm on Tour. The film festival will feature some of the best mountaineering short films from the past year, including shorts on culture, rafting, skiing, expeditions, and of course the mountains themselves.

Rocky Horror Picture Show Screening + Floorshow

Ever since QPACs production closed, there has been a massive Rocky Horror shaped hole in the Brisbane arts scene, until now. The Schonell Theatre at UQ will be screening the cult classic this Friday night with the obligatory accompanying floorshow. Get the best of both worlds with Rocky both on the screen and in the flesh, and always, of course, in fishnets.

Renowned artist Patricia Piccinni’s exhibition Curious Affection will be launching this weekend and you have to see it. She invites us to see the beauty in a world that does not strive to be perfect anymore with this thought provoking exhibition.
