We love a good, jam-packed weekend, but when there are this many things to do in Brisbane, we get a little—okay a lot—excited! Jailhouse movie nights, pizza box art shows, food trucks, live music and free burgers are just a few of the fabulous weekend-fillers that our fine city has to offer. 

Prepare yourselves, Brisbane, it's going to be a big one! Here's what's on in Brisbane this weekend:

Friday 26th

Mr Burger Food Truck Launch

Mr Burger—Melbourne's fave burger food truck, no less—is coming to Brisbane and there is going to be free burgers! Yes, you read that correctly; FREE BURGERS. Mr Burger Food Truck will be hanging out at Green Beacon Brewing in Teneriffe on Friday night, ready to serve up the goods. Word on the street is that Green Beacon will be showcasing a new brew too. Free burgers and a fresh new beer? Deal!

Corbett & Claude Turns 1!

Blow out the candles and crack open the sparklers, Brisbane fave, Corbett & Claude is turning 1 year old, and they want to celebrate with you, good people of Brisbane! This week only, buy any pizza on the menu at Corbett & Claude at Indooroopilly, and get a free beer or wine, all because you stopped by for a feed. When you order, just show them this insta pic, and ta da, free drink! Don't bring a gift, just yourselves and wish them a very happy HB!

Queensland Poetry Festival

Poetry fans have their very own annual party coming into Brisbane this weekend. The Queensland Poetry Festival is dedicated to promoting the cultural and beneficial art of poetry in Queensland. Featuring unique and entertaining events such as their tribute to the late, greats David Bowie and Prince, it embraces all forms of poetic expression. Poetry buffs, rejoice!

Prison Movie Nights 

Boggo Road Gaol will open its doors to the public this Friday for a night in prison—without the chains and hard beds. This retired prison will be transformed into a cinema over four Friday nights, playing classic films to make you feel right at home... Starting off with the classic Chicago then moving on to hand-selected gems like Walk The Line and Shawshank Redemption, we think there's a theme going here!

Jamaica Comes to The Shafston Hotel 

East Brisbane’s The Shafston Hotel are getting their Jamaica on this August. Head down this Friday to enjoy loads of Jamaican themed goodies, including food, music and theming. They’ll also be serving delicious Appleton Estate cocktails—Jamaican Mule or Planter’s Punch, anyone?

Eats & Beats 

Is there anything better than a pop-up food truck and music festival to celebrate the end of the week? Er, that would be no! Slack off work a little early and get down to Beenleigh Town Square for an evening at Eats & Beats; 25 food trucks and a host of local musicians to keep the mood buzzing all night long. Sounds like one helluva party!

When: 26th August, 5pm-9pm

Saturday 27th

2016 Artist Pizza Box Series

Let’s be real here, pizza is an art form in itself. To celebrate the wonder that is pizza, Crowbar are putting on a seriously cool (and delicious) pizza box art show. In collaboration with Alfredo’s Pizzeria and Red Stripe, they’ve brought together 50 of their favourite local artists, sent them away with pizza boxes and told them to get creative. The pieces will be on display in Crowbar along with Alfredo’s pizza to quash those cravings and Red Stripe lager to wash it down–all in the name of pizza.

Sunday 28th

Provenance Fare

The Stores West End are celebrating their 1st birthday this weekend in true The Stores style! Bringing together the local South East Queensland families that provide them with all of their produce, the day will be full of cooking demonstrations, face painting, live music, a BBQ and tastings for their meats, cheeses, olives, chocolate and wine (just a few of our favourite things).

Upgrade your Sunday brunch to a Sunday Social at Riverbar this weekend (or every weekend) with an afternoon of friends, family and delightful alcoholic beverages from the pop up bar. Swing into Monday the right way!

QUT CreateX Festival

QUT recently completed the construction of their $88 million expansion and are ready to throw it a housewarming party! Discover the university's latest work in technology, design and arts with everything from workshops in dancing, to a virtual reality cinema and a live performance from John Wilsteed, successful musician and lecturer at QUT. The finale will be a concert filled to the brim with the past and present QUT gems.

Party Caribbean Style at Fiction Bar

Whisk yourself away to Jamaica for the night at Fiction Bar in Cleveland where you can sample delicious Appleton Estate cocktails and tasty island-inspired eats. There’ll be Jamaican Mules as well as some tasty Planters Punch—plus a whole bunch of Jamaican tunes and theming. If you’re in the mood for some live music, head down to Fiction Bar between 1pm and 6pm on Sunday 28 August to catch vocal trio, Geed Up.

Gnocchi Workshop 

If you're not Italian (or you don't have a nonna who has taught you all of her cooking skills) then Il Locale's gnocchi workshop is probably the next best thing! Learn all the tricks of the trade to make those perfectly pillowy potato balls, along with picking the perfect sauce to go with your favourite style.

Landscape Art Prize Public Exhibition

Tattersall's Club Landscape Art Prize is a annual premium competition which selects the best pieces from some of Australia's most talented artists, and now you get to see what all the fuss is about! Once the artwork has been judged and the winner announced, the paintings entered into the competition will be displayed in Brisbane's Riverside Centre for the public to enjoy. If fine art is your thing then this is where you should be!

Brisbane Festival

With only a week until Brisbane Festival kicks off for 2016, we can't help get excited butterflies in our bellies! With music, dancing, food and drinks, not to mention a chock-a-block program of cabarets, gigs, art exhibitions, dance performances and fireworks, this is Brisbane's biggest event of the year, and you'd be mad to miss any of it!
