Calile Culture: Australasian Dance Collective

A unique one-night only, multimedia presentation of film, dance and discussion is being hosted at Brisbane’s cultural mosaic, The Calile Hotel. Australisian Dance Collective’s company artists will guide attendees through a catalog of immersive short performances promenading in and around The Calile, and then discuss the collaborative and artistic processes behind the work. You’ll be immersed, enthralled and inspired—we recommend lavishing in it longer by enjoying a cocktail at the Lobby Bar and booking an overnight stay.

Pink Floyd The Dark Side Of The Moon Planetarium Experience

On 27 February, 1973, Pink Floyd’s new album The Dark Side Of The Moon debuted at the London Planetarium. Now, 50 years later, the iconic album is being celebrated with a series of planetarium shows across the globe, and one of them will be right here in Brisbane. Showing at the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium in Mt Coot-tha from now until April 2024, The Dark Side Of The Moon Planetarium Experience will combine breath-taking visuals of the solar system with Pink Floyd’s spectacular music in surround sound. Midtown Caviar 

Midtown are ‘bumping’ up their menu this month, giving you the opportunity to pair their signature martinis with a bougie caviar bump—because why not? You can head in for Polanco Oscietra Grand Reserve Caviar or Wild Australian Scampi Caviar any time this month, but for those on a budget, you’ll want to stop in on a Tuesday, when you can pair caviar with sour cream and onion pringles, fried potatoes or oysters for a bargain price. Better yet, sip on a Patient Wolf Melbourne Dry Martini with a side of green olives filled with caviar for just $39.

ΩHM - Festival of Other Music

Brisbane Powerhouse is unleashing the ΩHM Festival of Other Music on us once again, promising a sonic and visual feast from 28 February to 20 April. Curated by Brad Spolding and composer Lawrence English, the lineup boasts an eclectic mix of international and Aussie talent, featuring legends like Yothu Yindi, Michael Rother, Drab Majesty, Boris, and works by Kim Gordon and Stephanie Lake. Dive into the avant-garde with Michael Rother celebrating 50 years of NEU! and Drab Majesty's exclusive sci-fi-infused show. It doesn’t end there—immerse yourself in visual art exhibitions by Sonic Youth's very own Kim Gordon and mind-blowing dance performances by Stephanie Lake and Chunky Move. Get ready for a unique multi-sensory experience that pushes boundaries and celebrates the vibrant diversity of contemporary art.

Fairy Tales

There's nothing like a life-sized, magical art piece to grab our attention, and for the next few months, GOMA has been taken over by just that. As a part of Fairy Tales, the blockbuster exhibition for summer 2023/2024, a spectacular commission by Brazilian artist Henrique Oliveira has transformed the gallery into a gnarled and twisted woodland. Also on display as part of the exhibition is painting, sculpture, installation, film, costume and design by artists including Yayoi Kusama, Jana Sterbak, Kiki Smith, Patricia Piccinni, Abdul Abdullah, Ron Mueck and Charles Blackman, all of it delving into the allure of fairytales.

Sip & Sakura At Mary Mae's 

New Farm's Mary Mae’s is joining the celebration of the Cherry Blossom Festival with their Sip & Sakura, a month-long experience featuring cherry-blossom inspired Roku Gin cocktails, desserts and decor. Jurassic World By Brickman

Round up the kids and the kids at heart because a massive Jurassic World LEGO exhibition has rolled into the Queensland Museum, bringing over 50 large-scale dinosaurs, props, scenes and activities to Brisbane. You’ll be transported to Isla Nublar with 15 LEGO dinosaurs to meet, all built by the famed Brickman team led by Ryan McNaught himself. Keen builders can also get hands on with a heap of activities around the exhibition, from building escape vehicles to shaping islands—the creative possibilities will be endless with 2.5 million bricks to hunt through. Sunset Cinema

Now that summer’s torrential storms are finally (hopefully) over, it’s the perfect time to enjoy an outdoor movie night, and Sunset Cinema is hitting Northshore just in time to take advantage of the balmy autumn nights. From 21 March to 11 May, you can catch a mix of new release, family fave and all-time classic movies from their new location in The Collective Event Space, Dock D—just next to Eat Street. Take a blanket or opt for the VIP experience with a bean bag lounge and bottomless popcorn included in their Sunset Lounge tickets. Brisbane Comedy Festival

Love a good belly laugh? You’re in luck because the Brisbane Comedy Festival is back in town for five weeks to showcase over 50 local and international comedians. With huge names like Wil Anderson, Tom Ballard, Josh Thomas, Dave Hughes and Stephen K Amos on the bill alongside some fresh faces, there’s a name for every sense of humour—just make sure you leave enough time in between shows to catch your breath.

Scenic Rim Farm Gate Trail

Join farmers, foodies and everyone in between for not one, but two weekends packed with farm-fuelled fun at the Scenic Rim Farm Gate Trails. Just over an hour from Brisbane, these road trips will have you seeking out some of the freshest, locally-sourced produce from jams and honey to cheese and carrots, perfect for bringing the taste of the countryside straight to your kitchen. Dopamine Land

Prepare to get a little silly, because a dopamine-boosting experience where you can jump in ball pits and have pillow fights is coming to Brisbane. After successful runs in London and Washington DC, Dopamine Land is coming to Australia, and its first stop will be right here in Brisbane. Popping up inside Uptown in the CBD, this multisensory, immersive wonderland will feature colourful areas where you can experience a digital forest, explore a light-filled infinity room, navigate a path across musical tiles and tell stories with shadows. Love cozying up with your favourite book and a hot cup of cocoa? Then the UQ Alumni Book Fair is for you. With more than 110,000 books, magazines, vinyl records, DVDs and other pre-loved goodies to choose from you’ll have plenty to add to your winter reading list. Goods are priced from as little as $1 and all profits go towards UQ student scholarships and research. Monster Fest Weekender: Slasher Edition 

Calling all horror film fanatics—Monster Fest is returning to Brisbane in May for a weekend full of fear and fright. 2024’s program includes six feature films: A Nightmare On Elm Street, Wes Craven’s New NightmareDerangedFriday The 13th: The Final ChapterI, Madman and Sleepaway Camp I, II and III. Screening at all Event Cinemas across Brisbane, you can purchase individual film tickets for $21, a Sleepaway Camp marathon of all three movies for $35, or VIP access to the whole weekend for $120. Big Gay Day

Big Gay Day is coming back to The Wickham for 2024 and it has a headliner you won’t want to miss. Sporty Spice herself, the iconic Melanie C, is coming all the way from the UK to perform at the annual LGBTQIA+ street festival—cue the nostalgia. Once again closing down the laneway off Wickham Street, this year’s festival will have a Wickham of Oz theme, so decide whether you’re going to be Dorothy, the Tinman or the Wicked Witch of the West now. Also on the bill is Sneaky Sound System, Tall Pall, Hannah Conda and Briefs Factory among others, with a portion of the proceeds from tickets going to LGBTQIA+ charities. BSAF: Brisbane Street Art Festival 

The city wide street art festival that is the Brisbane Street Art Festival is back in 2024 for its ninth year. Prepare to be mesmerised as both local and global artists take to the streets to revitalise some of Brisbane’s most iconic locations with live murals and art. This year, Superordinary NorthShore will act as the central hub for the festival, with immersive art events and workshops running alongside the public art program. Scenic Rim Eat Local Month 

Long lunches, growers and makers markets, afternoons of tacos and tipples, carrot festivals, sunset banquets and edible flower picking—welcome to the incredible array of events and experiences on offer during this year’s Scenic Rim Eat Local Month. Puppy And Goat Yoga

What is cuter than puppies and baby goats? Puppies and baby goats doing yoga with you. This year, Karmably is allowing you to downward dog with a literal dog and combine mindfulness with cuteness as you embark on a yoga session like you have never experienced before. Goat yoga can positively increase your dopamine and oxytocin whilst puppy yoga serves a platform for fostering early socialisation skills and boosting confidence for the puppies. Brookfield Harvest 

An open-air feast for the senses set in the green pastures of Brookfield, Brookfield Harvest is an annual celebration of regional food best enjoyed with friends. Australia’s biggest open-flame dining event, the spectacle will see 800 diners take a seat under the winter sky to graze through a menu crafted by Terra Firma Dining, matched with Australian wines. Tickets are sold in tables of eight, so you’ll need at least seven dining partners, but are inclusive of all food, wine and beers from 12pm-4pm. Keep the party going with the Harvest Cocktail Bar open from 1pm and live music playing right up until 10pm.

Hops & Harmony 

Get ready to sing your heart out with a room full of strangers, because Hops & Harmony has a stacked calendar of 2024 events, and they are ready to make some magic happen. If you haven’t heard of the bar choir, think karaoke on a grand scale—led by Billboard and Aria charting singer Jamie Lee Wilson (aka (JVMIE), you’ll blend your voice with those of a bar full of fellow shower singers. It’s as social as it is musical, so prepare to make some new friends—and don’t worry if you’re tone deaf because no one will hear you anyway. Brisbane Writers Festival

The annual Brisbane Writers Festival is a must for aspiring writers, published authors or just anyone who loves a good read, and we can guarantee this year’s edition will be no exception. More than 60 Brisbane authors will feature alongside a huge line-up of national and international guests across 150 live events including author talks, panel discussions and workshops. Fantasy lovers are well catered for this year, with Naomi Novik, author of the incredible Scholomance series, appearing alongside Samantha Shannon, creator of The Bone Season, but that's not the only genre on the progam—Michael Connelly, Trent Dalton, Paul Murray are just a few of the headline authors making an appearance.

Brisbane’s biggest celebration of all things French is returning in 2024, and even better, they’re heading back to where it all began in South Bank Parklands. After popping up in a few different locations in recent years, Le Festival will once again be taking over South Bank with three days of market stalls, masterclasses, entertainment and of course, plenty of French food and drink. Teneriffe Festival 

Brisbane’s one stop shop for a stellar weekend by the river is returning this June. The iconic Teneriffe Festival will once again be sprawling across the leafy suburb live music, street acts, food, market stalls and of course, plenty to drink. The full lowdown for the day is yet to be announced, but we do know that The Cat Empire will be co-headlining alongside the Thundamentals, so it’s already off to a good start. Pink Floyd Orchestrated

Beer Fest 

Eatons Hill Hotel’s annual Beer Festival is back for all of Brisbane’s beer enthusiasts. Bluey’s World Immersive Experience 

Northshore Pavilion, Hamilton 

A brand new, never-been-seen-before immersive Bluey Experience is coming to Brisbane next year, when it will invite fans of the iconic kids show to step into a real life Bluey’s world. Housed in the 4,000sm Northshore Pavilion, which has previously hosted Van Goh Alive and Monet In Paris, the exhibition will feature life-size sets, interactive play opportunities and a mesmerising soundscape, as well as a cafe, gift shop and playground. While we don’t recommend telling the kids about it just yet (or you’ll be fielding ‘when can we go see Bluey?’ questions for months), we do recommend circling August 2024 in your calendar and signing up for presale tickets here

Melt Open

Brisbane’s annual festival of LGBTQIA+ art and culture, MELT, has undergone a metamorphosis, and will this year return as Melt Open, a brand new expanded, open-access festival that celebrates the Queer community. And with a new name comes a new main event for 2024—the inaugural River Pride Parade, Brisbane’s very own mardi-raft on the river. On Saturday 29 November, a flotilla of vessels will journey from William Jolly Bridge to the Brisbane Powerhouse, led by the fabulous Courtney Act, this year's Melt Open ambassador. If you’re feeling ‘nauti’, you can register your boat, or to join an existing one, but if you prefer to keep your feet on dry land, there’ll be plenty of places to enjoy the spectacle along the river. The full program of events for Melt Open is yet to come, bet you can bet it’s going to be dazzling, so stay tuned.

Ali Wong Live 

You’ve seen all her side-splitting Netflix specials, now see Ali Wong in real life when the Emmy and Golden Globe winning comedian and actress comes to Brisbane this July. After playing to full houses across the USA and Europe, Ali Wong: Live will be taking over the stage at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, and tickets are on sale Friday 22 March at 9am—snap them up here

Stones Corner Festival

Gear up, because Stones Corner’s legendary street festival is coming back on Sunday 5 May with a massive lineup of acts that includes Australia’s famed EDM sensation The Potbelleez and party-starters like Screamfeeder, Never Ending 80’s, Vixens of Fall, Lontano, Later Daze, and John Hanley with Don’t Shoot The Hurricane. A must-do on the Brisbane event calendar, Stones Corner Festival also promises tasty bites from food trucks aplenty, refreshing brews from local breweries, market stalls from local makers and creators.
