Animated! An Improvised Musical Fairytale
A fairy tale musical is coming to Brisbane—but it's definitely not for kids. Part of the Brisbane Comedy Festival, ImproMafia’s new show, Animated!, combines the best (read: unpredictable) parts of improvised comedy with a very different take on everybody’s favourite animated movies. ImproMafia will be spinning a tale that does away with the traditional conceptions of distressed princesses, brave knights and talking animals as it narrowly avoids copyright infringement. Expect a lot of singing, awkward dancing and knee-sleeping hilarity—all made up completely on the spot. For all the details, and to get tickets, click here.
Beer Trivia Night
It’s that time of year again, folks; Brewsvegas is officially in town, so to celebrate Archer Brewing are throwing one heck of a trivia night at the International Hotel. This isn’t your typical pub trivia night, no siree, because each team of seven competing on the night will be joined by one very special guest, one of the brewers contributing to the event. Just in case you didn’t quite have your hops knowledge down pat, these brewers (drawn from the best local breweries in our fair city) will be on hand to help you distinguish your lagers from your pale ale. The chance for your whole team to get to brew their own signature beer alongside Archer Brewing Head Brewer Gavin Croft is up for grabs—so start knowledge-cramming, stat! Rum & The Rogue | Battle Of The Barrels
First, beer-themed trivia and now Brewsvegas is coming at us with a holy union between The Charming Squire and Beenleigh Rum in the form of one killer dinner. In an event aptly named Rum & The Rogue, this Wednesday evening The Charming Squire will host to a five-course meal that will pit James Squire beer against Beenleigh Rum. Each course will be paired expertly with one of each bevvie with head honchos from both breweries presenting during the evening. For all the details, click here.
Yep, you read that right, much-beloved indie quartet Grizzly Bear are heading to Brisbane for one night only and we couldn’t be more excited. The intimate concert, hosted at QPAC, will feature all the best songs from their shiny new album, Painted Ruins, alongside some old favourites. Grizzly Bear is famous for their keep-you-on-your-toes melodies and playful instrumentation and have been steadily climbing up the charts since their humble beginnings in a Brooklyn apartment. And now all of this experimental musical goodness is coming to Brisbane, accompanied by special guest Jens Lekman. If you need us, you know where to find us. Need a knock-off event that will start the weekend off right? Same. Luckily, Urban Climb Milton had the same idea so decided to create Boulder Bangers; the union of indoor rock climbing and Friday night vibes courtesy of live DJ sets and dimming the lights down low! Headlining acts Where Two, El Delpha and Rohan The Intern will be providing the bangers, while the Jaffle Shmaffle food truck will be serving up toasted sammies and free coffee—score! The lights will be turned down (very) low as Urban Climb Milton is transformed into one killer late night disco, complete with the chance to test your skill at climbing up rock faces.
