this weekend in Brisbane

Er, how is it 2017 already?! If (unlike us) you’re still luxuriating in blissful holiday mode and are curious to find out what exactly is going on outside of your couch fortress, there’s a whole heap of things to do in Brisbane this weekend with your name on them. International tennis stars have arrived in town, the city is teeming with outdoor movie sessions and pop up bars, and there’s even vegan markets on the go! Brisbane’s well and truly over her NYE hangover and is rearing to go.

Here are 6 awesome things to check out in Brisbane this weekend.

Thursday 5th January

Brisbane International

Brisbane gets just that little bit more street cred around this time of year with the arrival of the Brisbane International. Will you sneak a peek of Rafa leaving his hotel? Will you bump in to Serena along South Bank? Probably not, so your best bet is to get along to the tennis for some damn fine displays of sportsmanship, and some very famous faces.

When: Daily until 8th January
Where: Queensland Tennis Centre, Tennyson

QAGOMA Pops Up At Westfield

Are you a big kid looking for something to do other than sleep in all day and eat chicken out of a bucket? Do you need something to do with your actual kids? To celebrate QAGOMA’s 10th anniversary, a very special pop up is coming to Westfield Garden City. Celebrated artist Sangeeta Sandrasegar has created exclusive designs for the day, where kids of all ages can create their own shadow puppets. Get the creative juices flowing and get stuck in!

When: 5th–13th January, 10am–3pm
Where: Westfield Garden City (opposite The Coffee Club)
Tickets: It’s free, but get all the info, here.

Friday 6th January

Summer Nights Pop Up

Escape the balmy Brisbane evenings at Treasury Hotel’s Summer Nights Courtyard Pop Up. Celebrating the Brisbane International and upcoming Australian Open, and the fact that the weather is mint, Treasury’s courtyard bar has been transformed into a ‘courtside’ bar-come-tennis court. Serving up cold beers and fresh frosé, bring your entourage for a glam Friday night session.

When: Every Friday in January, 5pm–9pm
Where: Treasury Hotel Courtyard
Details: For more info, click here.

Moonlight Cinema

Give that you-shaped dent in your sofa a well deserved break; Moonlight Cinema is back for another season to fill your lungs with fresh air and your minds with stories. Head down to New Farm Park this Friday for the screening of Arrival; think Interstellar crossed with Alien.

When: Friday 6th January, 7:00pm
Where: Brisbane Powerhouse, New Farm Park
Tickets: To book your spot, click here.

Sunday 8th January

Aperol Spritz Sunset Sessions

Celebrate the New Year in style with a classic Brisbane Sunday session at The Regatta. Aperol will be taking over the courtyard, serving their signature Spritz, so you can relax on the lounges in true Mediterranean style. There’ll be live music from 3pm and a BBQ pop up for anyone with a grumbling belly. We recommend that you settle in and take full advantage of the delicious festivities.

Where: The Regatta, Toowong

When: Until the end of January
Details: Get all the info, here.

Brisbane Vegan Markets

After a huge turnout last year, the Brisbane Vegan Markets are back just in time before we break all our food resolutions for 2017. Get along for fresh, totally delicious plant-based dishes from some of Brissie’s best vegan chefs and food trucks for a day of guilt-free feasting!

When: Sunday 8th January, 9am–3pm, and every second Sunday of each month
Where: Cnr Boundary St & Russell St, West End
