Oh Brisbane, your selection of events ready and willing to cap off the week with a bang never does disappoint. This weekend in Brisbane we’ve got everything from Queensland-themed trivia, real-world Cluedo to a gluten-free food expo ready to complete the ultimate weekend schedule. Sorry Netflix, looks like we won’t be staying home this weekend either.

Grab your squad, say goodbye to your bank balance (sorry not sorry) and make some memories fun enough to kick the dreaded Monday-itis.

All about those Friyay feelings? Check out these nine awesome things to do in Brisbane this weekend.

Thursday 18th May

Queenslander Trivia

Guys, it’s time to let your knowledge of Queensland’s random bits and bobs shine at The Flying Cock’s Queenslander Trivia Night. Teams of eight are encouraged to apply and prizes include a XXXX Brewery Tour for the entire team (we think we just shed a happy tear), a meat tray and an assortment of venue vouchers. Topics covered will include politics, geography, flora and fauna, music and art and, of course, a healthy dose of that Queenslander cheek we all know and love. Gather your brightest chums, grab some cheeky bevvies from The Flying Cock’s ample selection, and show off your state-based pride. Trivia’s never sounded so good.

An Evening With Dr Jane Goodall

Dr Jane Goodall, a name synonymous with primatology and conservation, sure knows her stuff when it comes to researching our closest biological neighbours, the chimpanzees of Tanzania. Now Dr Goodall is ready to bestow her knowledge on Brisbane, with a lecture and panel set to inspire the conservationist in us all. The famously elusive doctor, whose work has brought us closer to understanding how the lives of chimpanzees mirrored our own and inspired a generation of would-be primatologists, will also be doing a meet and greet after the event. Trust us, this one is so not to be missed.

The interactive game will get guest investigating hidden rooms, solving puzzles, finding clues and peering into the lives of the party’s peculiar guests in order to solve the mysterious murder of the party’s host. Oh, and it’s all going to be set to a backdrop of killer jazz music, crooning singers and mouth-watering food. Sign us the heck up!

Gluten Free Food Expo

Brisbane has seen an explosion in taste-bud tingling gluten-free foodie options in the past couple of years, but the Gluten Free Food Expo takes things to a whole new level. Celebrating its 12th year, the expo celebrates all things gluten free with stalls from some of Australia’s best gluten free food producers, keynote presentations from coeliac specialists and enough free samples to sate every hunger. But the star of the show has to be the presence of former MasterChef finalists, Courtney Roulston and Michael Weldon, who will both be whipping up a veritable smorgasbord of gluten free goodies throughout the expo. Prepare your stomachs, friends, this is one food expo you’ll never forget.

There’s nothing better on a chilly winter’s night than heading to Orleigh Park with your mates for the monthly West End Fire Fest. Originally created to help share the magic of fire arts with the Brisbane community, this totally free evening of entertainment includes a fire spinning circle, electronic music, a drumming circle and just a hint of magic. Indulge your inner child as brave souls toss fire through the air, lighting the night and wooing a faithful crowd that just can’t get enough. BYO nibbles are encouraged, so there’s nothing standing in the way of one epic night. We’ll see you there!

Brisbane’s favourite celebration of all things Greek, Panyiri is back for 2017. Think smooth moves from the Hellenic Dancers (who are celebrating their 40th year at the festival), celebrity guest appearances, traditional Greek cooking demonstrations, and honey puff eating competitions with some very special guests. And that’s all before we get to the plethora of Greek food options. We’re talking everything from fresh loukoumades and tender yiros, to sweet, sticky baklava. Run, don’t walk!

Americana Sunday Sessions At The Triffid

Americana charm is coming to The Triffid this month and there’ll be a few epic southern-inspired cocktails to match. The session will kick off each Sunday at 2pm in the garden and you can expect entertainment from the likes of Phil Smith, Mexico City and Fanny Lumsden (depending on which week you head down). For drinks, you’ll struggle to choose between the whiskey apple and the Wild Turkey Gold Rush cocktail, which is basically a whiskey sour with sweet, sweet honey. Once the live music wraps up at 4pm, the afternoon will kick it up a gear, with live DJ sets.

Beer Yoga At The Flying Cock

Yes you read that right. The Flying Cock has done it again with this beautiful event combining the best parts of yoga with the joy that comes from sipping a cold one mid-class. Designed by local instructor Wes (the real MVP) specifically around you and your beer, you can bet this is one yoga experience you’ll be happy to brag to your friends about. The class is also open to yogis of all skill-levels, so you don’t have to be a master of the downward dog to earn yourself a tipple. Now that sounds like a win-win to us.
