Raise your hand if you’re officially over the week already. Luckily, there are a bucket load of things to do in Brisbane this weekend, and the city has definitely got your back when it comes to weekend plans designed to put the swagger back in your step.

We’re talking free gypsy jams, a Frank Sinatra tribute set to knock your socks off and a sneak Sunday session with all your favourite food trucks. See what we mean? Those Friyay feelings are about to turn into the best weekend ever.

Friday 2nd June

Jo Davie Quartet at Green Jam

Local legend Jo Davie is bringing her signature gypsy jazz tunes to the Melbourne Street Green this Friday night as part of the ongoing Green Jam Sessions—and it’s all totally free. That’s right, the talented vocalist, songwriter and teacher will be traversing the diverse realms of jazz standards and it won’t cost you a penny. We’re talking being serenaded by everything from traditional gypsy music to contemporary popular styles, all while you kick back amongst the grass and twinkling fairy lights outside QPAC. Did anyone say evening picnic with the squad while listening to some killer tunes? Sign us the heck up!

Seven On Sinatra

Recalling the golden days of Las Vegas in the 1950s, Brisbane’s very own tribute to Frank Sinatra is one concert you won’t want to miss. Created as part of the upcoming Queensland Cabaret Festival, this one night only event will feature the likes of Liz Buchanan, Jacqui Devereux, Claire Walters and Jo Doyle. Sinatra hits included in the line-up include I’ve Got You Under My Skin and your Grandpa’s favourite, My Way. Oh and did we mention the dancers and swing band accompanying the whole shebang. Run, don’t walk, friends.

Appleton Estate Pop Up Bar At Port Office Hotel

Live entertainment, delicious rum cocktails and a paired food menu are in full swing at the recently renovated Port Office Hotel every weekend this month. Appleton Estate Rum is taking over the bar and they’ll be serving signature cocktails like the Jamaican Stormy and Planters Punch alongside an Appleton Estate-themed menu. For food, order the Jamaican tuna salad and chicken roti with slaw and jerk sauce to go with your cocktail (for obvious reasons).

Onesie Party at the Lucky Cat Cafe

If there’s anything better than cat cuddle sessions at the Lucky Cat Café, it might just be FREE cat cuddle sessions. Yes, you heard that right, the Lucky Cat Café is hosting free one hour cat cuddle sessions – with one condition. You have to come dressed in your finest onesie to partake in the festivities. Those who turn up in plain clothes will have to pay the normal entrance fee to Brisbane’s favourite cat café. Feeling snuggly AF in public AND getting to cuddle all the cats? Oh, we think we can manage that.

Boasting to be the only Brisbane-based market selling 100% locally handmade products, the Brisbane Twilight Markets definitely deliver the goods. This meet-the-maker market gives eager shoppers the chance to purchase a range of unique handmade items directly from the maker. We’re talking everything from handmade candles to one-of-a-kind fashion pieces to the perfect gift for that special someone in your life. Brisbane’s favourite food trucks will also make an appearance, and eager creatives are able to partake in a free craft workshop on the night. It’s definitely time to treat yo’ self, guys.

Teen Spirit: A Tribute to Nirvana

Nirvana was the defining sound of a generation and who could forget their iconic album covers. So it makes sense that the legends over at The Triffid are hosting their very own Nirvana tribute evening. Featuring Byron Short & The Sunset Junkies, WALKEN, The Bear Hunt, Port Royal and Eden Mulholland, Teen Spirit: A Tribute To Nirvana is set to be an absolute stunner. Go on, let teenage-you-going-through-a-grunge-phase have this one.

Green Heart Fair

Claiming to be Brisbane’s biggest bi-annual community and sustainability festival, the Green Heart Fair has enough world-friendly things to do, see and eat to satisfy even the most eco-loving heart. Hosted by the good ol’ Brisbane City Council, the Green Heart Fair boasts over 100 of Brisbane’s leading sustainability organisations, community groups, artisans and foodies. Plus, there’s a pretty killer food market, organised by The World Food Markets, accompanying the fair so you can chow down on some mouth-watering eats while learning how to save the environment. We don’t know about you but that sounds like a win-win to us. See you there!

Brisbane Times City2South

Getting involved in a series of fun runs is only half the fun at the Brisbane Times City2South, presented by Westpac, this weekend. While the 5km, 14km and F45 outdoor training events are the star of the show, those not too keen on exercising on their precious days off (i.e. us) can still kick back at the open air cinema, eat their way through everyone’s favourite food trucks or treat their ears to the sweet melodies of live music. If anyone needs us we’ll be consuming all the sweet treats so the racers won’t be tempted. See, look at the things we do for you guys.

Sunday by the River with Jazz and Food Trucks

What better way is there to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon than by kicking back with the squad while listening to free jazz and consuming way too many calories? Enter Sunday by the River with Jazz and Food Trucks, bringing you the best of Brisbane’s foodie and live music scene against the idyllic backdrop of Newstead House. The World Food Markets will be delivering the goods in terms of food, while Newstead Brewing Co will be serving up sneaking bevvies all afternoon, with all proceeds going to Newstead House. Fur babies are encouraged, so gather you squad and your best comfy blanket for a picnic Yogi Bear will be totally jealous of.

Queensland Cabaret Festival

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, the folks over at The Queensland Cabaret Festival sure know how to put on a good time. This year’s festival will take place between June 1st and June 15th and feature internationally acclaimed talent like Paul Kelly, Camille O'Sullivan, Bill Frisell and Sierra Boggess, who will also happen to be on her debut Australian tour. Bringing the romance of the city of love to Brisbane, the Queensland Cabaret Festival is definitely not to be missed. Oh and did we mention the 2017 programme is so chock-a-block it’s taking place over three stunning venues: the Brisbane Powerhouse, QPAC and the Queensland Multicultural Centre. Be still our beating heart.
