If you live in Brisbane you probably think you know everything you can do like the back of your hand. We’ve got news for you though, pal. There’s a whole heap of stuff to do in Brisbane that you haven’t even thought about. If you’re bored in Brisbane, boy do we have the list for you.
Here are 9 things you didn’t know you could do in Brisbane.
#1 Solve A Murder At An Escape Room
If you’re looking for a challenge that is completely unique and a bit different to your usual weekend activities, we have found just the thing. The Escape Hunt Experience is in West End and you need to try this ASAP! Playing the part of a keen detective, you’ll be locked in a room for 60 minutes with your friends, searching for clues to solve one of three mysteries depending on your skill level: Murder in the Barber Shop, Treachery at the Racetrack, or Bomb at Government House. Escape Hunt is the real-life version of the popular ‘escape the room’ online games, so it’s bound to be even more fun.
#2 Abseil The Story Bridge
As Brisbane locals we often forget this city can be a quite the looker, so why not strap on your sandshoes and tackle the climb up the Story Bridge where you will see some of the best panoramic views there are! And if you’re still not fully satisfied with the adventure level of that, don’t worry because you can abseil—that’s right, we said abseil—down the bridge to your safe landing in the park below. This is one of only three bridge climbs in the world and right on our doorstep, so if you’re looking for new things to do in Brisbane, this should be top of your list!

#3 Join A Book Club
Sometimes we all need someone who understands just how riveting our latest novel was, how much we love that dreamy character, and why we hate but love Professor Snape. Thankfully, you can join a book club filled with other book lovers. Avid Reader at West End has a variety of different book clubs you can become a member of. They even have a cute café and courtyard at Avid where you can sit and enjoy your latest read! It’s a nerd’s paradise.
#4 Cuddle A Koala
We bet you are kicking yourself that you haven’t visited Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Fig Tree Pocket yet! There are over 130 cute koalas living peacefully in the world’s first and largest koala sanctuary, as recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records, right here in Brisbane. Koalas aren’t the only cute animals at Lone Pine though. If you’re lucky enough you could feed a kangaroo, be entertained by two adorable platypus, and cuddle a koala all in one day.
#5 Go Ghost Hunting
If you’re brave enough, there are some knowledgeable people with a passion for all things horror who are willing to go out into the night and teach you about some of Brisbane’s scariest haunted sites. Brisbane Ghost Tours has an ‘eerie tour guide’ who will show you some of the creepiest places in the city, including after-hours access to some very haunted graveyards. At least going in a group might give you a bit more courage to go out into the dark with nothing but a torch light for protection!
#6 Become An Acrobat
It’s time to get out of your comfort zone and let Circa teach you a thing or two about circus acrobatics. Located in the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, this team of award-winning circus artists can teach you the wonder of circus movements meshed with dance and acrobatics. If you are a little hesitant they hold trial classes to test ability and strength, so you can figure out if you’ll be swinging from a trapeze anytime soon!
#7 Have A Free Laugh At Knockoffs
The Brisbane Powerhouse hosts a free comedy show every Friday night called Knockoffs. Bet you didn’t know that. Having a few drinks and good laughs with friends has to be one of the best ways to end your week on a high and kick off the weekend. Knockoffs brings you a variety of local and Australian comedians every week to deliver some of the best one-liners and stories to give you the giggles. And the best part? It’s all free!
#8 Make Friends With A Whale
Head out to Redcliffe and hop on the Eye Spy vessel at Brisbane Whale Watching to get up close with our whale friends. You can sit back in the luxury of the air-conditioned boat, or head out on the deck to get a close up view of a humpback whale. You might even be lucky enough to spot a dolphin! And to make sure the experience is all worthwhile, you can rest assured knowing that a portion of your ticket price will be donated to on-going whale research, so we can enjoy these beautiful creatures for years to come.
#9 Scale A Cliff Face
Every Brisbanite should take in beautiful views of the river and city by stepping off the edge of a 20 metre high cliff at Kangaroo Point. Sounds crazy, right? But you will be guided the whole way by an expert and will be provided with the safest abseiling equipment around. They will ensure you can push through your adrenaline rush to be calm and amazed by this awesome experience.
