Okay lushes listen up. We know how much you love your local but tonight we implore you to venture farther afield into the inebriated underbrush our city. To help you on this quest we've curated this sipper's cheat sheet—a titillating tabulation of all things alcoholic, appetising and atmospheric at Brisbane’s best bars.
Prepare yourself for a night you won’t remember.
Widely known as one of Brisbane’s premier drinking destinations, The Laneway emanates finesse and style while still managing a welcoming and chilled vibe (good date location, nudge nudge). It is the perfect bar to enjoy a bit of classical and contemporary music while happily sipping on an award-winning glass of wine. Or a crisp boutique beer or cider. Or maybe a tasty cocktail. Screw it, Porque no los dos?
Cocktails, cheeseburgers and chicken wangs, all served with a little live music and a DJ set on the side. Need I say more? Miss Kay’s must be one of the most delicious bars in Brisbane, and now they're open in Woolloongabba!
Heya Bar epitomises what we’re about, here in Brisbane – cheap drinks, live music, pool tables and pin machines, Pan Asian street food and dark, intimate corners. Are you asking for a throbber of a night? You’ll sure as hell find it here.
Tucked in next to their neighbour, Southside Tea Room, Death Valley is a hipster-pleasing little hole-in-the-wall, with the delish Red Robin Supper Club food truck parked outside in the beer garden.
Sick beats, cold drinks, and tinnie roulette makes this Valley bar a good times epicentre. The vibes are mellow and be assured their tagline speaks the truth: Barbara will take care of you.
Looking for a brewskie with a viewskie? Madame Wu boasts an epic cellar, cracking cocktail list and one hell of a view of the Story Bridge. This Brisbane bar is a no-brainer for a night out with friends.
The Bearded Lady
For live music and up-and-coming acts you can't pass up a night at the Bearded Lady. The scattered decor makes for a homey vibe so the whole joint feels like a licensed house party, and just like a house party feel free to get snacks from Chop Chop Chang's across the road and bring 'em along.
Eleven Rooftop Bar
Reppin' it for the rooftop watering holes, Eleven takes the high life to its literal extreme. The cocktails, lounge vibes and sweeping vistas smack of luxuriance but for all its swank Eleven manages to strike a relaxed vibe perfect for the weekend.
Leather booths, no signage, and a heavy helping of double-bass, the Bowery is a speakeasy caught in a 1920s New York time warp. The customised cocktails put a fresh spin on classic drinks, and you can always kick-on to the Bakery Lane frivolities thumping just around the corner.
Riverbar & Kitchen
The stripey beach club decor makes Riverbar feel like a boatshed, so it's perfect for Brisbanites on the crawl. Add in some snacks, bevvies, and riverside vantage and you've got yourself the perfect place for sundowners.
Felix Wine & Espresso Bar
Tucked away in uber cool Burnett Lane, this little bar exudes laid-back sophistication with timber furnishings and Brooklyn-cool exposed brick. Night-time nibbles at Felix are accompanied by a huge selection of beer, cider and local wine and, unlike other inner-city bars, it won’t break the bank.
Just a few doors up from Felix, Super WhatNot is a hip, speakeasy-esque bar, serving a huge range of craft beers, boutique wines, classic cocktails and gourmet-snackery.
Featuring live music every night, Brooklyn Standard's funky rhythm section goes down a goddamn treat with some of their all-American snacks and scintillating sips.
The Milk Factory
West End dive bar, The Milk Factory is a live music venue and bar with an eclectic pub-y menu and a shabby vibe you can’t help but fall in love with. Swing by at the end of a long week and catch some fresh sounds.
Soleil Pool Bar
No list of bars in our subtropical paradise would be even close to complete without a pool bar, so if swanky dranks by the splash are you thang, Soleil Pool Bar should be your Brisbane bar of choice. You’ll leave both tipsy and tanned and if all goes well you might even retain your Uber rating.
Tonic Espresso & Bar
Laneway hole-in-the-wall bars don’t come much cooler than Tonic, a coffee shop by day that transforms into an espresso martini and gin cocktail swilling bar by night.
La Lune Wine Co.
Bringing more than 120 wines from across Australia, Europe, and New Zealand to the same cellar, La Lune Wine Co. is a plonk paradise. The menu includes charcuterie and cheese, as well as six dishes specifically designed each week for pairing.
Freshly landed on the drinking scene, Savile Row might just be the first bar to be better dressed than you. Taking a Brummelly cue from the street of sartorial splendour, this bar is a dimly-lit fantasy of leather booths, mahogany bartops and really, really spectacular cocktails.
Found discreetly up a flight of stairs next to a titty bar, Greenglass is a showcase of Australian winemaking. Their labels are all handpicked and go perfectly with their French-style menu.
Housed inside a heritage-listed building, the Gresham has all the grandeur of a licensed library from the 1930s. There are wingbacks, soft lighting and some of the finest cocktails in the city, and so close to Red Hook's late-night burgers
Upstairs from the restaurant, The APO's bar has all you need for a brilliant night out. Everything from the precision-made drinks to the decor is ultra-mod and they'll even send up some share plates from the kitchen if you ask nicely.
Bloodhound Corner Bar
Rotating taps, tacos, and a badass mural on exposed brick; these are the ingredients that make Bloodhound Corner Bar the gold-hearted larrikin of Brunswick Street. Their craft beers are all carefully chosen, but you'll find no snobbery or stuffiness here, just a whole lot of good times and a whole lot of suds.
This coy little lapin knows how to keep a secret. Head upstairs from Electric Avenue and climb inside the wardobe at the top of the stairs. Step through to find this bar within a bar, pouring whisky and playing jazz until the wee hours.
Finely crafted glasses of euphoria don't get much better than at Maker. Every drop of one of their mindboggling concoctions is a goddamn delight, and their recent foray into toasties and charcuterie has been nothing but a godsend for late-night drinkers.
Fitz and Potts
When they're trying to start a cult following, new neighbourhood bars take a leaf out of Fitz + Potts' book. With plenty of drinks, share plates, and such a chilled atmosphere that it actually feels like being on someone's back deck it's easy to see how Fitz + Potts earned their rep.
