Steak and The City

By Eagle Street Yuppie - 14 Jun 2012

I have no beef with vegetarians but, let's be honest, the beef industry has such an important presence in our nation's economy.  Haven't you seen Baz Luhrmann's Australia?

Being a true patriot, I take my steakhouses very seriously and I am always on the hunt for the best eye fillet around town.  Preferably grass-fed.  Cooked medium rare, of course. And complemented with a glass of cab sav...

This is my selection of the prime steak restaurants around the CBD that are a cut above the rest.

Moo Moo Wine Bar and Grill
With a name like Moo Moo, beef is clearly this establishment's raison d'être.  The restaurant is set inside the historic Port Office Building and there is also an adjoining wine bar. If you are feeling ambitious, order the signature dish: a one kilogram angus rump roast rubbed with secret spice mix, sealed, oven-roasted, then carved at the table.

Kingsleys Steak & Crabhouse
A favourite for corporate diners, Kingsleys Steak & Crabhouse has a vibrant atmosphere with succulent steak, superb wine and sweeping riverfront views.  Try the wagyu rib-eye if you're feeling indulgent.  There is also a decent seafood selection if your dining companion is so inclined.

Cha Cha Char Wine Bar and Grill
This landmark restaurant needs no introduction to Brisbane's fine dining scene - Cha Cha Char is where Brisbane's business world goes to schmooze over steak. Restaurateur John Kilroy is a nationally recognised beef judge, so expect your steak to be charred to perfection.

The Morrison Hotel The Norman Hotel
Finally, if you are willing to venture a bit further from the city for your steak, then head over to The Morrison Hotel or The Norman Hotel at Woolloongabba.  These two establishments are much more casual than the former options but they are firm favourites amongst steak fans. The Norman is well known as being 'Brisbane's Worst Vegetarian Restaurant'.  And whilst The Morrison's menu is more forgiving to vegetarians, it also serves hefty-sized meals that aren't for the fainthearted.
