Pardon the expletive, but I really need to get my point across . . . F*ck I love amazing cheese. Give me a piece of a French Buche D'Affinois, with it's creamy oozy insides, over a slice of chocolate cake any day—because beautifully made artisan cheeses really are one of life's great pleasures.
Some of my greatest food memories revolve around cheese (Alison Kubler, I'm looking at you and that pistachio studded pecorino in Rome).
Cheese brings people together. It unites them. They stand in awe of it, congregate around it, and rarely, when entertaining will you hear someone say, 'Oh I don't like cheese . . . sorry'. And cheese doesn't discriminate against the lactose intolerant, because that's why they invented goats. And goat cheese.
And so, because at The Urban List we're all about the finding the pleasure in the every day, and sharing the word on where to get good things, we bring you our guide of where to buy really good, expletive-inducing, adoration-worthy cheese.
They have a purpose-built room at their Spring Hill location. It's bursting with cheeses sourced the world over, from English cheddars, to possibly the best Italian hard varieties in this town. Also check out their blog on cheese board 'how to'.
Here's where you go for award winning morsels from the Bangalow Cheese Co . . . like the Nashua Washed Rind, with it's golden rind and uber-creamy centre. They've also got a great deal of Meredith Dairy's offerings too.
Now, this a great deli. It's run by a Cypriot family and is a superb spot to stock up on your saganaki and haloumi. Because grilled golden cheese is awesome, and might well be rated as one of the best restorative options around. They've two locations too, at Carindale and Capalaba.
We'd be silly not to mention what is almost a small aisle of cheese that rests in their cold section. From Barambah cheddar to wedges of French Gruyere, there's plenty of good stuff to be found.
Like many of their products, the cheese is seriously top shelf stuff. Best saved for a special occasion or perhaps bought as a gift for other cheese-orientated mates.
Ah . . . they have some real heavy hitters resting inside their cabinet, and you could source not only all the good stuff for a cheese board here, but all your accompaniments too—with loaves of fresh bread, dried fruits, and pastes to boot.
