Sometimes a hectic week and a heavy head (courtesy of the previous evening's festivities) can result in the longing for a little familiarity and a touch of comfort food. The idea of being adventurous, and opting for a new breakfast locale, can be downright daunting – sometimes I just don't want to navigate a new menu, deal with coffee that isn't quite right, or, potentially, bungle my order so badly that I end up with a serious case of food envy. Sometimes a familiar favourite is what's required.
Enter Au Cirque. This New Farm institution is one of those places that years after opening still attracts a loyal crowd of brunching enthusiasts who, come the weekend, will patiently wait to snag a table at this cosy inner-city haunt. With its snug fit out, all-day brekky option, and perfectly brewed Genovese coffee, it's your one-stop weekend cafe.
For the uninitiated, here's our go-to hit list for dishes that are sure to satisfy.
1. Pearl barley salad with chicken
2. Vego chow down
3. Avocado, tomato & basil on pide
4. The omelette special
