My name is Eagle Street Yuppie and I am a cocktail-aholic.  I'm pretty sure that makes me worse than an alcoholic, cocktails being much more potent than other alcoholic drinks.  It also makes me qualified to recommend some great places around town with talented bartenders who know how to serve bespoke tipples.  Here are a few favourite places serving the best cocktails around the CBD.

Malt

I am admittedly biased towards Eagle Street's usual hotspots, but every now and then I like to escape to the hidden gem around the corner that is Malt.  On the ground level of this luxury three-level establishment is a charmingly sophisticated bar which kind of resembles an exclusive gentlemen's speakeasy.  It's the perfect place to nestle for a few serious cocktails after having a rough day in the office.

Super Whatnot
Previously, there were no good reasons to wander down those dark, derelict lanes off Albert and Queen Streets, but it is time to change our mindsets.  Tucked down Burnett Lane, parallel to Queen Street Mall, is the super-secret bar that is Super Whatnot. Don't let the rough exterior of this place fool you, it's what's on the inside that counts.  This sleek inner-city hideaway offers craft beer, adventurous concoctions of cocktails and gourmet Mexican snackery.

The Laneway
Reminiscent of Melbourne's laneway culture, The Laneway is a bar that you need to know about to know how to get there.  This cosmopolitan bar is located in an elevated space that can only be accessed through The Euro or directly via Spencer Lane off Margaret Street.  I highly recommend getting 'all aboard' the new cocktail menu that pays tribute to the train stations and train lines of Brisbane.

Tank
Alastair McLeod's acclaimed restaurant is certainly no secret when it comes to fine dining in this city.  But the bar at Tank is also a considered alternative for a more casual bar and dining experience.  In the adjoining laneway of the restaurant is this cobbled stone space decked out with designer bar tables, sandstone lounges and a cosy alcove.  My regular cocktail order here is the Vespa Lynd, shaken not stirred.
