SO WHO'S ON OUR HIT LIST OF THE BEST UNDERGROUND BRISBANE BARS?
If you’ll allow us to generalise like hell for a second, you’ll find that Brisbane bar scene is broken up into two types of drinkers: those who like rooftops, and those who like bunkers.
The rooftop crowd have shiny hair, like bright colours and soft fabrics, and enjoy their beverages with adorbs accessories. The underground bar people, on the other hand, are a completely different breed.
Shunning bright lights and Vitamin D, you’ll find them slinking down alleyways and knocking on secret doors, unlocking Brisbane’s coolest subterranean hang outs. Join the underground set and work your way through Brisbane’s best underground bars.
Finding underground Brisbane bar, Greaser is half the fun. The other half comes courtesy of the greasy American eats—cheeseburgers, hot dogs, and crinkle cut fries, heck yeah—the ‘90s dive bar vibe, and the copious amounts of whisky you’re likely to consume.
Sonny’s House of Blues
With a character that feel legit’ ‘80’s LA, this underground live music venue brings the beats and the booze, and it’s a good mix. Mexican bar food, a dance floor that won’t quit, and frozen margaritas mean you’re in for a stinkin’ good time at Sonny’s.
Supper, once the domain of old people and boarding school students, had become the hippest meal around, and new Brisbane bar, Farrier, is rocking the meal like no tomorrow. With a cosy Game of Thrones vibe thanks to the stone walls and warm, glowing lighting, this new Brisbane supper club is all about the late night feeds and moody ambience, open late seven days a week.
If getting lost down an Asian-alleyway and finding yourself in a deliciously dingy street-eats utopia sounds like your kind of night out, Heya is your jam. Pool, pinnies, dark corners, and street-eats straight outta the Orient make for a raucous time.
Scoot on downstairs to Brooklyn Standard where a bowl of pretzels and one of Brisbane’s coolest little drinks lists awaits you. Themed live music nights seven days a week, including, funk, blues, and Mad Mariachi Mondays mean your weekday hangover just got serious.
We're thrilled to partner with MINI to bring you our Fave 5 series—our fortnightly guide to the best of the best in Brisbane. From food to fashion, Campari to Crossfit, each Fave 5 edition is researched and recommended by The Urban List, and driven by the new MINI 5-Door Hatch—putting the city at your fingertips and giving you the freedom to explore it!
