The sales have started, the coats are out, it can only mean one thing: July’s eclectic festival of revolution, sobriety and mock Christmas has arrived. Along with the annual winter festivities come a bucket load of new openings in Brisbane; we’ve got some stalwart expansions alongside a few brand new ventures we can’t wait to fall in love with.
Get out and start flamingling, you foxy roosters. Here’s everything coaxing us out of bed this month:
I know we keep teasing you with this but it really, truly is happening this time. Though it will feature all the things you know and love about the Spring Hill original, this new Happy Boy vibes off its new Valley location and promises some bonus late-night bites for the snacking party animal.
The minds and hearts behind the glory-powered Scout Café are turning their attention to the evening trade with brand new watering hole Jessie’s Girl. Taking up the former digs of Hops, Scotch & Beans, this neighbourhood bar and eatery promises a fresh and campy departure from the grizzled, leatherbound standard currently influencing Brisbane bars. Think bright colours, spritzers, and boozy brunches all weekend long under the luminescent glow of a neon insignia.
The Cheese Pleaser
Tipped to open early this month, The Cheese Pleaser is the delicatessen-fromagerie-melt connection you never knew your life was missing. An initiative of a family-run catering and cheese business, this lactic mecca is poised to set stomachs rumbling across the grid with an artisanal cheese cabinet, in-house chef and cheeky coffee hustle just to cover all the bases.
Various market locations
Scooping up cones of fresh cookie dough, the absolute geniuses behind this smooth operation have taken what is normally a transitive treat and made it its own thing, bringing you all the best parts of baking without the risk of burning the house down. With three kinds of dough currently in the mix, right now the crew are finalising flavours and you’ll be able to get swirls of Kuki’s doughcones just as soon as they hit the Brisbane market scene around mid to late July. Until then keep an eye on their Insta for updates and flavour experimentation.
The Cloakroom Bar
Express from a concept in Montreal, The Cloakroom Bar is a tall glass of charm to chase an afternoon getting dapper. An offshoot of the men’s style emporium, this intimate alleyway bar takes the personal touch of The Cloakroom’s made-to-measure service and pushes it beyond the atelier. In lieu of a curated menu, the cocktails will instead be bespoke creations tailored to your tastes, just like the duds.
Salt Meats Cheese
This concept from Sydney is just about the best thing to make its way north since the self-propelled rotary hoe, and it’s ready to land this month. Championing pretty much what it says on the sign, Salt Meats Cheese is your new platter connection and cheeseboard inspo covering everything from boardroom catering to Friday night nibbles. Get around one of their cheese wheel towers the next time you've got something to celebrate.
The Single Guys
Their brews and breakfasts have charmed Kenmore locals right down to their boots, and now our suburban heartthrobs, The Single Guys, are bringing their schmick attitude to Charlotte Street in the CBD. Expect the same specialty brews and tasty daytime fare as the Kenmore OG, as well as some extra grunt in the evening courtesy of some local beers and natural wines.
