Despite our love of really bad reality television (The Bachelor, I'm looking at you), every now and then we want entertainment that has some substance.
(I also have to maintain my reputation as an intellectual, writer-type. Something that can be quite challenging when my go-to is re-runs of the Kardashians.)
So, when I'm looking for things to do in Brisbane, I'm all about thinking-girl type activities to fill my Instagram feed with, therefore saving public face.
Thankfully, it's Brisbane Festival time again, which means there are plenty of things to do in Brisbane in September that will not only help expand my grey matter, but also give me fodder for being a complete culture snob on social media.
La Boite's new production A Doll's House — a ground-breaking adaptation of one of the world's most performed plays and part of Brisbane Festival's lineup — is just the play to help up my theatre cred.

It's a story that will have you beating the feminist drum, exploring issues of marriage and motherhood, female empowerment and the idea of self-liberation. Sans bra-burning, of course.
One of Australia's most renowned playwrights, Lally Katz, has tackled these gritty topics head on through an adaptation that is true to the 19th century original, but still modern, poignant and thoroughly entertaining.
It's easily one of the most watched plays in the world, so if you haven't seen it yet do yourself a favour! Tell The Bachelor to take a hike, get your girl-crew together, and celebrate being part of the sisterhood.
