You’d think at this time of year, when the temperature drops and the sun sets a little earlier every day, that we Brisbanites would be (literally) shaking in our boots at forecasts frequenting under 20 degrees C, and saying to anyone that will listen ‘wasn’t it cold this morning’? Well, we sort of are, but we’re also walking around with whopping great grins on our faces, and with a notable spring in our step. Why? Because Brissy’s biggest event in the social calendar is back for another year; the Royal Queensland Show, a.k.a the Ekka!
A Brisbane institution (do you know a Queenslander that doesn’t like fun, food, fireworks AND a public holiday in the middle of the week?), the city comes alive when the Ekka rocks around, and we’re now officially on countdown!
All of your favourites are returning; from an even bigger (and louder!) Sideshow Alley, the Ekka’s infamous Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show Cooking Stage, the Hot Wheels High Octane Show, and don’t even get us started on the showbags (Bertie Beetle we love you)!
From petting a piglet at the RACQ Animal Nursery, to finally satisfying that Strawberry Sundae fix you’ve been (poorly) managing for the last 12 months, Ekka mania has well and truly hit.
So get set to fill up your social calendar—and your bellies— for the first two weeks of August. Tickets are on sale now, and what’s more, for the first year EVER you can buy a 2-day pass! Whaaaa? To book your tickets, click here.
It really is the most wonderful time of the year. Happy Ekka-ing 2016 folks!
