They say loose lips sink ships and, boy, is this ship well and truly down. Can You Keep A Secret? in Greenslopes has been revealed and reveled by vintage lovers throughout Brisbane. The large store is a coveted source of well-priced vintage clothing and antique furniture and, on special occasions, an underground event space.

Can You Keep A Secret? owners, Emily and Ajanta make a living out of what they love and we caught up with Ajanta, who has provided us with a funk-fueled playlist below, for a quick stickybeak about her love of music and how she manages to not hoard all the vintage for herself.

TUL: Describe in one sentence what you do for work?

I buy and sell secondhand goods that are dated between the 1950s to 1980s.

TUL: When did you decide to open a vintage clothing and furniture store?
This is my third vintage adventure and definitely the best. Emily had already opened Can You Keep A Secret? and I had a stand at the Woolloongabba Antique Centre then we met and it was like 'love at first sight'. Something inside us told us to be partners and go on an adventure and we did within a couple months. It's funny how the universe works sometimes.

TUL: How would you describe your music taste?
Dated! I'm not too current with my choices, to be honest, and still live in the past (like I do with most things). Funk music is definitely my favourite genre as it's so happy and just makes you want to dance. I also love lounge, bossa, disco, world music, and nu jazz.

TUL: Do you find it hard to put some of the vintage stock into your store and not keep it for yourself?
For sure! Usually those pieces don't fit me though which makes it a lot easier.  I'm pretty good at not taking lots of stock, and remember it is secondhand, so you can always wear it once and put it back on the rack.

TUL: What piece of clothing does every guy and girl need for winter?
A velvet jacket... It's warm, smart, stylish, and looks damn fine!

TUL: What's your favourite café in Brisbane?
Pearl Café.

TUL: Best way to spend $50?
Wine and cheese on my verandah.

TUL: Best way to spend $500?
Put it towards a ticket overseas.

TUL: It isn't the weekend without…
Sunshine, Campari, and fun times at the shop.

TUL: Last place I went for a drink…
The Bowery.
