10 Epic Things To Do This Weekend In Brisbane

Congratulations, you've survived the second working week of 2018. Pour yourself a glass of plonk. Now, we're sure that your resolutions are chugging along nicely, but if you're keen to throw in the towel to work on your social life, there are plenty of things to do in Brisbane this weekend to make it worth your while.

From petting puppies to extreme sport, go to any one of these events and we guarantee they will get you that little bit closer to your ideal 2018 you. Alright maybe some are just for fun, but they will definitely be better than staying home and sipping a kale smoothie.

Thursday 11 January

Pub Choir

Does singing at the top of your lungs, beer in hand, with around 200 tipsy strangers sound like your perfect Thursday night? Then make your way to The Elephant Hotel on Wickham Terrace and warm up those vocal chords. Hosting their tenth pub choir, the Elephant welcomes you to their first singathon of the new year, so grab some mates and prepare to drink and howl your way through your fave tunes.

RUBEE And Whitney Veitch At Ric’s Bar

If you’re planning on hitting the Val for a hectic night before uni goes back, no booze-up is complete without a trip to Ric’s Bar. This Thursday they are hosting the captivatingly talented RUBEE and Whitney Veitch. Mellow out to their electic/folk tunes and dance the night away at Ric’s.

Friday 12 January


The new year is the perfect time for trying new things and committing to health and fitness, but let’s be real, the same old 30-day challenges and detox cleanses are getting a bit bland. If you're looking to kick it up a notch this January, book in to Urban Climb for their SufferFest this Friday night. SufferFest is a 12-hour endurance climb featuring themed hours, special guests, midnight snacks, and a heckin' lot of lactic acid. Teams must be between two and six climbers so grab some mates and secure your place in the most hectic team challenge to kick off your 2018. All proceeds go to charity so you can do the world and your delts some good.

Australia’s biggest waterslide festival at Brisbane’s best winery? Where do we sign up! Starting this Saturday, Sirromet Winery will be home to the biggest collection of waterslides you've ever seen in one place, set up over their lush, rolling grounds. Expect high slides, single slides, and a 6-laned slip 'n slide to zoom down as well as food and drink supplied by the event partners at Sirromet. This event is booking out fast, so make sure you secure your tickets ASAP!

Paint ‘N’ Sip

If you don’t know what Paint ‘n’ Sip is, you haven’t lived. Where else can you express your creative flair as well as your deep love of wine? Luckily for you, The Stable on Hubert is hosting one this Saturday with an open invite. Just bring a bottle of wine and get ready to paint. This Saturday's theme to paint is Frida Kahlo and David Bowie, which we recommend pairing with a crisp chardonnay. Happy painting!

Needing no introduction, rap protégé Joey Bada$$ has landed in Aus and will be hitting up Eatons Hill Hotel this Saturday night. Touring after the release of his new album, Bada$$ has found a unique sound while providing a fresh social critique on his nation’s flaws. He will only be in Brisbane for one night so make sure you book tickets quick!

Madonna Concert Screenings

Need to prepare yourself for the Brisbane Madonna party coming this August (trust us, it’s a thing)? Book a ticket to the screening of two of her concerts, playing at New Globe Theatre this Saturday. Showing her 2006 The Confessions Tour and the Rebel Heart Tour ten years later, this is an event any die-hard Madonna fan cannot possibly miss. Better brush up your voguing and dust off the cone bra for this one.

RSPCA Pop-Up Adoption

Make a New Year’s resolution to take more responsibility this year, and there is no better way to do that than to adopt an animal in need. RSPCA is holding yet another pet adoption day, bringing hundreds of pups, kittens, dogs, and cats along with them. Come along and add an adorable furry friend to the family!

Barks And Brews

Speaking of adorable furry friends, after you adopt your new pup on Saturday you should drop by The Brightside this Sunday. They will be hosting a Barks and Brews event each weekend in 2018 in their giant beer garden. Come along for a best dressed dog competition, dog treats stall, dog photography, and off-leash area. Oh, and Lucky Egg and their fried chicken will be there to keep the the two-legged folk happy.

To wrap up this weekend we have the ultimate push for your biggest New Year’s resolution of 2018 – veganism. Australia Day Race Day 

This Australia Day, Brisbane Racing is pulling out all the stops. Ample sunshine, food and drinks, as well as a Queensland-friendly dress code all combine to make Doomben the place to be this January 26.
