11 Incredible Things To Do This Weekend In Brisbane

By Erin Curtain - 18 Jan 2018

We know, we know: it's really, really hot. So hot you just want to draw the blinds, crank the AC, and hibernate until the worst of summer is over. We understand completely, but guys, there's so many things to do in Brisbane—summer is our jam. To keep you from a weekend-long Netflix marathon, we've compiled a list of the top events this weekend to lure you out of your climate-controlled den and into the sunshine.

From theatre to trivia, fried chicken to fashion, here are 11 things to do this weekend in Brisbane that are better than freezing in your air-conditioning.

All Weekend

The Rocky Horror Show At QPAC

Ah, The Rocky Horror Show. I think we all share memories of seeing the film and not being quite ready for the exposure to another dimension with voyeuristic intention. If you want to relive those excitedly naughty memories, or you are one of the few unlucky souls who haven’t yet experienced the space dwelling transvestites, go to QPAC this weekend and see the full show in the flesh for their opening night.

When: 17th January-11th February
Where: QPAC

One Day Cricket

One Day Cricket is the ideal form of the sport. The crowd is rowdy and it doesn’t last for what feels like eons. Where else can you spend a sweltering summer arvo in a hot stadium, drinking beer from plastic cups and pretending to know what LBW means? Australia is up against England this Friday at The Gabba, so book a ticket, grab a brewski, and watch distant men hit balls and run back and forth.

DIY Concrete Planter Workshop

It is time for us to bow our heads and pay our respects to all of the plants that have perished in our care over the holiday season. Whether they were forgotten in the office, disintegrated in the summer heat, or were uprooted in a Brissy storm, they will be sincerely missed. To honour their memory, make your way to The Soul Pantry this Saturday to create an on-trend concrete planter for some brand new and blissfully low maintenance succulents.
