I get it, winter is cold and abrasive, especially to us Brisbanites who nine tenths of the year only ever use the word ‘cold’ when followed by ‘beer’. Good news is, the worst of the winter chill is—thankfully—over, and it is time for us to shake off our doona covers and re-enter the real world!

Here are 13 fabulous things to do this weekend in Brisbane (maybe take a sweater just in case!).

Thursday 13th July

Free Personal Styling Sessions

Indro’s personal and celebrity stylist Sarah Turner will be running one hour personal styling sessions at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre, and did we mention they are 100% free? Running from Tuesday July 11 to Sunday July 23 these sessions will provide you with the experience of consulting a personal stylist on the best shape, cut, and colour for your body, skin tone, and style.

American Honey At The Envy Hotel

It’s all about American Honey at The Envy Hotel this month. We recommend that you kick back with an American Honey, dry and lime in hand whilst listening to chilled-out live entertainment each Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 6pm to 10pm, and on Sundays from 3pm to 7pm. It’s all happening until mid-August.

Friday 14th July

Bastille Day Dinner At Madame Rouge

Bastille Day is this Friday, guys, and you know what that means: French food, French wine, French errythang! Brisbane loves a good national holiday, and just because it belongs to a different country doesn’t mean we won’t be celebrating ALL the French things. Kick off your ‘Fête Nationale Française’ at Brisbane dining darling Madame Rouge for a three-course lunch, or drop by in the evening for a decadent five-course dinner that will have you saying oui oui monsieur!

Bastille Day Night At Lutèce

Brought to you by Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Bailliage de Brisbane and Chefs Romain Bapst and Qian Cao comes the most luxe Bastille Day celebration of the year. Book a table at Lutèce Bistro and prepare yourself for a five-course dinner of the finest French food, paired with their ideal French wines. Be greeted upon arrival with a glass of champagne and be transported to Paris through the live entertainment of Manu D bringing the sweet sound of France to your evening. This formal affair comes in at $158pp, and is reportedly worth every penny.

La French Touch

To top off your Bastille Day experience (if you hadn’t got it already, Bastille Day is a big deal), head to Laruche for an evening filled with filtered French house and disco music, accompanied by French champagne and martinis. DJs Tim Fuche’ and Dan Les’Mumble will be playing the French classics Cassius, Chromo, Daft Punk and Etienne de Crecy. Laruche is French for ‘The Beehive’, so hit the dancefloor amidst the chandeliers and très chic décor as you ring in Bastille Day buzzing.

Ruddigore At QPAC

Be you an opera feind or first-timer, we promise you've never seen anything quite like Ruddigore. A macabre melodrama-come-comedy set in the Cornish country town of Rederring, OperaQ’s production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s gothic opera is truly a visual feast for the eyes—and an absolute must-do on your social agenda. Friday is opening night and is set to run for a limited season, so get your tickets QUICK!

AFLW | Allies Vs. QLD

Gather your rowdiest crew and head down the highway to Gold Coast this weekend. You’ll want to snag the best spot at this weekend’s AFL Women’s under-18s game! Kicking off at 10am at Broadbeach Sports Club, all three matches and the closing ceremony are completely free to attend. The final day of the 2017 NAB AFL Women’s Under 18 Championships will see Vic Metro face off against NSW/ACT, Vic Country against WA and Allies vs. QLD. Food from Mario’s Pizza and barista coffee will be available, so come along to support the AFL Women’s rising stars. Just in case you can’t get away from the office, we highly recommend streaming the games live in the corner of your computer screen.

Saturday 15th July

Regional Flavours

If you like, nay, love your food, this year’s Regional Flavours festival is not an event to miss. Among other things the festival will showcase live music, demonstrations by celebrity chefs like Gary Mehigan and Poh Ling Yeow, kid’s entertainment as well as an extravagant spread of delicious food, wine, and beer. This amidst the picturesque landscape of the gorgeous South Bank Parklands will make you want to stay all weekend. This one is worth attending just for the samples alone, and entry is absolutely free!

A Night To Remember

This Saturday you can attend a winter ball along the riverside. Taking place at the Maritime Museum the $150pp cost will get you a five-hour beverage package, including spirits, beer, and wine. The evening will be complete with food trucks, a garden bar, a Heineken bar, and an exceptionally exciting espresso martini bar as well as a RMS Titanic dance floor, which I can only assume is as fabulous as it sounds. Tickets are on sale this weekend and the after party will be announced soon so keep your eye on this one!

I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor

Stop what you are doing and book tickets to this epic event immediately. With sold out shows in Melbourne and Sydney this one is selling out fast with their Friday night show already booked up. Kick it on the dance floor at Woolly Mammoth as they celebrate the indie music golden age of the 2000s. Playing classic jams from Artic Monkeys, Pheonix, Kings of Leon, The Killers, The Strokes, and many more, this  throwback rave is a must. Tickets are already on their final release so get in quick—but if you do miss out they will be selling more tix at the door after 11pm. Make sure you post your 00’s requests on their Facebook event for the chance to win a $50 bar tab. Your night out = made!

Mt Gravatt Fashion Market

Looking for things to do on a Sunday morning? Head to the markets! With over 60 sellers great coffee, stalls full of snacks, and free entry, Brisbane market, the Mt Gravatt Fashion Market is an ideal event to attend with some friends. Come and support the locals by exploring an extensive collection of new and pre-loved clothes, shoes and accessories. The farmers market is on at the same time and only a minute walk away, and dogs are encouragingly welcome.

On the trendy streets of Paddington is a trendy garage that, this Sunday, will be chock-a-block full of trendy, pre-loved clothes for you to delve into and collect. Think of the trends! This cash only will be selling records, DVDs, CDs, sneakers, old school denim, jewellery, swimwear, lingerie, and, of course, bulk pre-loved clothes from a plethora of well-known brands. If you are all about the life of looking bitchin on a budget then this is the garage sale for you, with the added bonus of live music from Linus Marsh to serenade your search for the perfect second hands.

If you have exhausted both the Fashion Market and the Garage Sale and are still hungry for more, make your way over to Brisbane Square for the suitcase Rummage. With free entry and haggling encouraged this event is a second hand shoppers delight. You never know what hidden gems you will find searching through these suitcases. Alternatively, if you have been to one too many fashion markets and garage sales you can register and bring a suitcase of your own finds to sell, keeping the magic rolling.
