The weather outside may be frightful, but the activities going on this weekend are delightful! There’s so much eating to be done over the next few days, you don’t even need to wear a jacket. Your food-consuming will provide insulation aplenty. Get ready, because things are about to get heated. Here is what’s on this weekend in Brisbane.

Thursday 16 July

Opening Night | Scandinavian Film Festival

Haluaisit mennä elokuviin? Kyllä! Yeah, don’t even try and pronounce it. Just go with the English version (”Would you like to go to the movies?” ”Yes!”) and get on down to the 2015 Scandinavian Film Festival, where you can feast on choc tops and nab an eyeful of those beautiful Nordic specimens. Treat. Yo. Self.

Where? Palace Centro Cinema.
When? July 16 – July 26.

Meat Meets Whiskey | Che Asado

I don’t know what else I need to explain about this. Meat meeting whiskey. What more could you ask for? The Facebook event literally says this night “is to celebrate the matrimony between meat and liquor”. That’s enough. Lock it in, Eddie.

Everyone’s favourite riverside watering hole is classing it up this weekend, and it’s about time you did too. RegattaFair is going to be a three-day extravaganza of beer, wine and delicious food. Snap on your faux clip-on pearls and get ready to devour freshly shucked oysters and antipasto platters. This is an event not to be missed.

It’s Colombian Independence Day, and there’s a fiesta to be had! The Valley will play host to a traditional street party featuring exotic food, drinks and live entertainment. ¡Arriba!

Food-lovers, ahoy. Block this weekend out in your diary, leave your phone off the hook and prepare yourself (mentally and physically) to roll around in pure food-induced ecstasy. Regional Flavours is your time to shine. It’s time to smash the piggie bank and get out all those gold dollar-dollar coins, because everything from the myriad of the food trucks along Little Stanley Street will be 8 bucks a pop. Wander through the Producer Showcase and check out what Queensland’s best growers have to offer, pick up a few tips in the Epicurious Garden, and see everyone’s favourite cravat-costumed culinary king Matt Preston talk about whatever it is he talks about. (Food. Obviously.)

Brisbane BBQ Festival | Wandering Cooks

Vegetarians beware: this is a toast to the host who can boast the most roast! If you’re thinking it’s time you upgraded your weekend BBQ from a $2 snag in the Bunnings car park to something a little bit more sophisticated, Wandering Cooks’ inaugural Brisbane BBQ Festival is calling your name. Throw on your best lumberjack flannel and get ready for the finger-lickin’ goodies being served up by Joe’s Texan BBQ, Bella BBQ, Char Baby, That BBQ Joint, Woodsmoke BBQ and JR Smokehouse.

Unseasoned Fashion Show | Australian Institute of Creative Design

Kids these days. They’re so damn trendy what with their crazy haircuts and their sneakers and jeans. When I wanted to rock the jogger and jean combo in Year 6 it was “embarrassing” and “not cool”, but maybe I was just a revolutionary ahead of my time… right? Whatever the answer to that question may be, the students over at the Australian Institute of Creative Design probably have their finger on the fashion pulse a little more than yours truly, so you should check out their Unseasoned Fashion Show and pick up a few tips. It’s an intimate catwalk event showcasing the final collections of 16 of Brisbane’s finest up-and-coming designers, which are sure to be #onfleek and #onpoint and whatever else it is the kids say these days.
