Yes, I know it’s not Christmas, but it’s still the season to be jolly because the miracle that is TWO weekends in a week thanks to the glorious Ekka public holiday rolling around once again. #GETJELLIFIED | Pineapple Express Café
Here’s a scenario I bet you never pictured: hunky soccer players getting dunked in jelly (but you’re picturing it now, aren’t you?). And on Friday this very recent dream of yours will become a reality when Brisbane Roar players Corey Brown, Luke Brattan and Jack Hingert take the plunge and #getjellified, all in the name of charity. Funds raised will go towards ICANIWILL, a children’s charity that aims to bridge the social gap for children with special needs in schools. Get down to Pineapple Express Café and watch the boys get sticky, donate to a great cause, then treat yo’ self to a Cocowhip after. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Pasta 101 Workshop | Il Locale
If you’ve ever wanted to experience the glorious art of pasta making without the stress of George Calombaris breathing down your neck, then now’s your time to shine. Get down to Il Locale in Rosalie on Saturday and learn how to make fresh pasta from scratch under the guidance of Mr Italy himself, head chef Dario. You’ll learn to perfect the art of kneading, cutting, rolling and filling and be up to your elbows in everything from fettucine to ravioli. Undoubtedly the best part of any cooking class, the eating of what you whip up will be accompanied by a glass of finest Italian vino. Buon appetito!

Spartan Super Brisbane | Ivory’s Rock Conference Center
If you’re one of those people whose idea of a rocking weekend is to run a casual 14 kilometres, well then bully for you. You’re doing better than me. You’re also in luck, because the Spartan Super Race is on this Saturday! With a 14 km, 25-obstacle-riddled battlefield over rough and rocky terrain, this ain’t no walk in the park. It’s tough, it’s painful and it’s muddy. Get keen.

2015 Korean Cultural Festival | King George Square
The sights, sounds and tastes of South Korea are coming to our fair metropolis this weekend with the Korean Cultural Festival! An all-day family affair, the event will see delicious Korean food, live music and performances including K-pop dance, taekwondo and pan-sori (traditional Korean singing). So, grab your mates and throw a little culture in to your weekend, Gangnam style.

Annual SoFA Cocktail Party | The Fox Hotel
Brush up on your Monet banter and get your fancy on this weekend at the UQ Society of Fine Art’s annual cocktail party at The Fox Hotel. SoFA is raising funds for bursaries for the UQ Art Museum, giving students the opportunity to gain practical experience in a professional environment. Getting adequately sloshed knowing you’re helping kickstart the careers of some tres talented students? Sounds good to me.
Miami Horror | Woolly Mammoth
Everyone’s favourite indie-electronica tropical groovers, Miami Horror, are back in town! They’re bringing their homecoming album tour to Brisbane this weekend to showcase the best hits from their new record, ‘All Possible Futures’, and their back catalogue. Joining them will be three stellar support acts: regular Miami Horror guest vocalist, Cleopold, 17-year-old Brisbane babe with a killer voice, Joy, and local DJ/producer, Young Franco. St Lucia Eats | University of Queensland
The food truck phenomenon is only getting bigger, and we’re totally on board! This Saturday sees another installment of St Lucia Eats, with trucks such as Juan More Taco, How We Rolls and Sushi Neko Food Van all rollin’ in. Plus, the legends of hilariously-named alcohol delivery service, Knock Knock Booze will be there to quench your thirst. Score!
Experimental Choreography Workshop | Institute of Modern Art
Time to shake up your weekend with a little bit of experimental choreography! Artist Patrick Staff will take you through the genealogy of movement employed in his film, The Foundation, and his practice more widely. What are you waiting for? Get on your dancing shoes!

Southsiders can satisfy their stomachs this weekend with the third Food Truck Laneway at the Stones Corner Hotel. Wear your comfy pants, because there’s going to be a whole lotta food options for you, including Char Baby, Fiery Deli, Fire’N’Dough Wood Fired Pizza, Gourmet H-Dogz, Greek Street Kantina, Juan More Taco, Sushi Neko and The Bun Mobile. There will be live music and buskers, plus free open-mic comedy from 6.30pm onwards! Fill your bellies with food then hold on to them as you laugh the night away.

Newstead’s resident Italian sweethearts, Locale, are about to make your weekend a whole lot sweeter with a cannoli pop up bar. Yep, that’s right. Take a deep breath. The pop-up is set to run from 7 am until 7 pm, but it’s going to be on a first-come, first-served basis so I would get there early if you know what’s good for you. Flavours are set to include vanilla crème patisserie, traditional chocolate, ricotta chocolate chip, Italian bacio, Limoncello and Baileys. Yep. You’re welcome.

The Ekka | RNA Showgrounds
It’s still here! The Ekka continues this week, with the opportunity to nab yourself a dagwood dog and strawberry sundae very much on the cards until Sunday night. As well as all the old favourites, some new faces have set up shop in the outdoor foodie haven, Gourmet Plaza: watch out for Doughnut Time, ChipTease, Big Tony’s Italian and Kwan Brothers. The pigs have been a-flyin’ at the Heritage Bank Racing Pigs show, so don’t miss your chance to see these cute and clever animals amaze crowds with their daring tricks. The final weekend will also see the best puppies and kittens of the show crowned, and don’t forget to visit the RACQ Animal Nursery for the perfect #selfie opportunity. Cute overload.
