Guys, we’ve nearly made it. Congratulations are in order for we have survived the horrific apocalypse that is a Brisbane winter. With only a few days of this questionable season left, Brisbanites all over town have a spring (sorry) in their step and are looking for ways to ring in the welcome change in weather. If you’re one of them, we’ve got you covered! Here is what’s on in Brisbane this weekend:

Thursday 27 August

Meet The Maker Dinner Series | Lutèce Bistro & Wine Bar

The night will see you devour a delicious five-course dinner and Stella Bella Margaret River wine selection. The Chelsea Project Charity Cocktail Evening | The Walrus Club

In September 2010 aspiring equestrian star Chelsea Higgins suffered a horrific horse riding accident that saw her spend nine days in an induced coma, with a lacerated liver, fractured scapula, a perforated lung and partial paralysis down one side of her body. Fast forward five years with a declaration from doctors that she would never ride again, and Chelsea is well on her way to representing Australia in dressage at the Rio Olympics in 2016. This weekend The Walrus Club are hosting a special charity cocktail evening to help Chelsea’s dreams come true. With gourmet canapés, a three-hour deluxe beverage package, live entertainment, a silent auction, a guest speech from Chelsea herself and a portion of each ticket purchase being donated directly to The Chelsea Project, this is one Friday night activity definitely worth your while.

Where: The Walrus Club.

Saturday 29 August

The Man, The Myth, The (King of Pop) Legend | Buffalo Bar

This Saturday marks the birthday of the undisputed King of Pop, and Buffalo Bar are putting on a do to celebrate everything about the sequin-clad, moon-walkin’ groover himself. Although Michael Jackson may have left us, his music never will, so you should get on down to Buffalo Bar to raise a glass or two to his memory. Don your finest MJ attire (finally a use for that lonely sparkly glove you lost the pair to years ago) and get amongst a rockin’ party complete with specialty cocktails, prizes for the best costumes, live entertainment and funky tunes. It’s going to be an absolute Thriller.

Where: Buffalo Bar.
When: Saturday 29 August. 12pm

OperaQ Cloud Song | Cloudland

I don’t know about you, but any excuse to go to Cloudland is fine by me. And this one is pretty damn good – OperaQ’s Cloud Song, which has (legitimately) been described as “basically a raging cocktail party interspersed with bursts of opera”. Following a wildly successful inaugural event earlier this year, Cloud Song is back to bring you a flamboyant afternoon of first-time opera performers, DJs, pop-up performances, aerial stunts, flamenco and, of course, delicious cocktails and canapés. Pencil this one in – it’s an event not to be missed.

Where: Cloudland.
When: 30 August 2015. 4pm – 7pm

Winn Lane Dog Show | Winn Lane

They say a Sunday well spent brings a week of content, and what better way to round out the week than a meet-up of epic puppy proportions? This Sunday sees the Winn Lane Dog Show taking place, where all doggies great and small are invited to dress up in their Sunday best (that’s the theme for the show, FYI) and strut their stuff. Registrations will open from 3pm, with the dog show to start at 3.30pm.

Registration: $10 registration with all proceeds going to 4 Paws Animal Rescue

Brisbane Festival 2015

Brisbane Festival is going to be bigger and better than ever this year! Here are some of our top picks of events for you to pencil in to your diary.

Flown | Brisbane Festival 2015

Any contemporary circus company with the name Pirates of the Carabina is going to be a good one in my books. I mean, you’re already sitting on an 8.5 for that pun alone, and if you’re presenting an award-winning show combining circus AND comedy, well that’s just a no-brainer. You’re pretty much headed for a perfect score. Introducing: Flown, a comically chaotic showcase of acrobats, aerialists, musicians and stuntmen. These incredible performers come together to reveal what really goes on behind the scenes of a modern circus outfit. There will be disagreements, fear, exhaustion, laughter, confessions and loud, loud music. Watch and see the rollercoaster of emotions that is the absurdity of contemporary circus life.

Where: The Courier-Mail Piazza, South Bank
When: 11 – 25 September

The Importance of Being Earnest | Brisbane Festival 2015

Move over, Colin Firth and Rupert Everett. Your time is up. There’s a new version of The Importance of Being Earnest in town and it’s giving you guys a serious run for your money. Taking to the stage this September to bring Oscar Wilde’s acclaimed play to life is W!LD RICE, Singapore’s sexiest theatre company, and they’re set to be an instant hit. Get ready for an evening of sparkling wit, laughter and love as this all-male ensemble reimagines the beloved tale of two wealthy single men who lead double lives to escape from the boredom of conventional society and court the attentions of two beautiful young women.

Where: QPAC – Playhouse Theatre

Lady Rizo: Unescorted | Brisbane Festival 2015

Grammy Award-winning cabaret superstar Lady Rizo is taking a brief hiatus from the sultry clubs of New York, Edinburgh and London to bring her fierce performance down under to Brisbane Festival 2015. With a voice that has been described as a mix between Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse and Peggy Lee and a songbook stretching from Judy Garland to the Pixies, Lady Rizo’s performances are unlike any other – a mix of luscious vocals, brazen comedic banter and flirtation.

Where: The Spiegeltent
When: 12 – 13 September

Beer InCider

The city’s biggest celebration of craft beer and cider is back, baby! Beer InCider will return for two glorious days this year to offer you up more than 130 craft beers and ciders from over 30 independent Aussie brewers. On top of that, there will be a stellar music line up including the likes of British India, Busby Marou and Skipping Girl Vinegar, and food galore to choose from, with food trucks such as ChipTease, Pizzantica, Juan More Taco and That BBQ Joint all rolling up. Grab your mates, pack your picnic blankets and black out these dates in your diary – this is one 2015 event you don’t want to miss.
