Brisbane Festival 2015 is finally here, and it’s making its grand entrance this Saturday! There’s a whole lot happening, so grab a pen and take some notes. Arcadia, the Festival village, will open up in the early afternoon where you can get food and drink to energise yourself for a big night ahead. South East Queensland’s best hip hop and break dancers will be competing for big bucks in the thrilling RAPcity from 2pm, there’s a silent disco at 6.45pm and the Official Welcome and after party will be in full swing after 10pm. Coup Fatal | Brisbane Festival 2015

Coup Fatal is a flamboyant take on baroque music with a Congolese twist. A dance spectacular, fashion show and musical theatre piece all rolled in to one, this show is a spectacle of 13 supremely gifted musicians who will knock your socks off with a standing ovation-worthy performance. The reviews speak for themselves: a show with performers who can “dance athletically, sing in goosebump-inducing harmonies, and rock a garishly coloured zoot suit” all at the same time? Sign me up.

Sunday 6 September

It’s time to celebrate the wonderful men in our lives who taught us to ride bikes, helped us with our maths homework and let us steal extra chocolate from the pantry when Mum wasn’t looking. Father’s Day is this Sunday, and there’s a whole lot on to help you celebrate the big man himself.

Father’s Day Cue & Brew | Buffalo Bar & Mighty Mighty

This Father’s Day let Dad do what he does best – eat meat and drink beer.  The legends over at Buffalo Bar and Mighty Mighty are putting on a carnivorous and brew-filled spread to celebrate Dad, and maybe say sorry – after all, we’re the reason he drinks. Buffalo Bar will be serving up smoked pulled pork rolls in the Craft Beer Garden and a hearty red rubbed smoked and braised lamb shoulder for two in the restaurant. Just a stone’s throw away, Mighty Mighty will be offering up a sumptuous Carnivore Plate for two plus Dad’s brew on the house!

Father’s Day | e’cco bistro

What better way to celebrate a fancy father than with a four (FOUR!) course meal? Take Dad to e’cco this Sunday and spoil him with a menu that goes a little something like this: duck liver parfait with Chambord jelly on brioche to start, a shared entrée of grilled Moreton bay bugs and ham hock croquettes, a whole roasted lamb shoulder with fennel and lemon glaze and a bunch of delicious sides for the main course, and a mouth-watering salted caramel cake with burnt butter ice cream to finish. Plus, all the dads dining in will receive a special gift from the e’cco team, taking home e’cco head chef Philip Johnson’s cookbook, ‘Eating In’. Were you stressing about what to do for Father’s Day? Stress no more. Here’s your Sunday sorted.

Sourdough Workshops | Work-Shop and Wandering Cooks

Are you confused about the doughrection your life is taking? Do you feel the knead to change careers or try something a little outside the box? You can totally do it! There’s no reason rye you can’t. And with that, I’m suggesting your quarter-life crisis miracle cure is not going to be buying a souped-up Ferrari, but instead something a little more low-key: learning to bake bread. Sourdough, to be exact. The team behind The Art of Eating is putting on two sourdough workshops this week to teach you everything you need to know to become a bread-baking master. You’ll learn everything about making a starter culture and sourdough bread at home, as well as getting to taste a range of delicious loaves, and will leave with a bunch of recipes and a starter kit. Come on! Rise to the occasion. Okay, I’ll stop.

Where: Monday 7 September at Work-Shop Brisbane studio. Wednesday 9 September at Wandering Cooks
When: 6.30 – 8.30pm
Cost: $60
Bookings: Call Angela on 0403 218 123 or email [email protected]

Guilty Pleasures with Krug | BlackBird

Iconic champagne house Krug is celebrating everything delicious and a little bit naughty this September with ‘Krug + Guilty Pleasures’. Madonna once admitted her guilty please was Krug Rosé with French fries – she’s on to something. So too are five of Australia’s leading chefs, who have joined in the frivolities by adding their own guilty pleasures to restaurants all over the country. Representing Brisneyland is BlackBird’s Jack Nicholson, whose Tuna Toastie with Caviar will be offered up with a glass of Krug on Blackbird’s menu from 7 September to 5 October.

Where: BlackBird Bar & Grill
When: 7 September – 5 October

The Science of & Art of Measuring Coffee Freshness with Professor Chahan Yeretzian

Let’s get this out of the way: yes, apparently being an academic and scientist on COFFEE is an actual career choice. Here’s your chance to learn from one of the best. Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters have teamed up with Swiss Professor Chahan Yeretzian, whose LinkedIn tells me his two most endorsed skills are ‘Chemistry’ and ‘Coffee’ (so he must be legit), to teach you all how to establish the freshness of your beans in order to produce the best possible speciality coffee experience.

The festival will play home to more than 30 independent craft beer and cider breweries from around Australia to Brisbane, some for the first time. The only festival in Australia that solely features independent breweries, Beer InCider are proud to introduce Akasha Brewing Co, Ekim Brewing Co, Exit Brewing Co and Prancing Pony to Brisbane’s beer drinkers, along with a whole host of other fantastic brewers. The glorious two-day affair will also feature music from British India, Busby Marou, Skipping Girl Vinegar and All Our Exes Live in Texas. Get your tickets, stat!

Oyster Bay Pinot Gris Launch | The Point

Darlings of a crisp white and my personal go-to order for a sauvignon blanc, Oyster Bay, are excited to announce the launch of their new Pinot Gris. Described as a lightly scented fresh floral and peach drop with refreshing lime citrus and lingering delicate spice, this wine sounds like all my summer dreams manifested in one glass of heaven. The launch will take place at The Point at Kangaroo Point, where cocktails and tapas will also be on offer and musical duo 3rd Above will be playing some sweet tunes.

Where: The Point Brisbane
When: Sunday 13 September from 3pm
