Woah, woah, woah, Brisbane. You’re just too darn cool—so many amazing things to do in our delightful city this week. From musicals to spring pop-up markets, groundbreaking dance performances, and a *tiny* little fireworks show, this week’s a winner Brisbane so spring to it.

Thursday 24 September

Strictly Ballroom | Queen Street Mall

Bring out your inner Tina Sparkle this Thursday 24th September, when the cast of Strictly Ballroom | The Musical, including leads, Thomas Lacey and Phoebe Panaretos perform live and sign autographs in the mall. The costumes, created by Oscar-winner Catherine Martin will also be on display in the Myer Centre until September 27th.

FLEXN at Brisbane Festival

Bringing one of the newest forms of dance, flex, to Brisbane in this Australian premiere, FLEXN is an edgy and thought-provoking response to the social disharmony, injustice and unrest in American neighbourhoods following the arrests of Eric Garner, and Michael Brown. The dancers explore personal narratives and perform both as individuals and in groups, to choreography created by the ensemble itself consisting of pausing, snapping, gliding, bone breaking, hat tricks, animation, and contortion; From the dance halls of Jamaican bruk-up to the reggae clubs in Brooklyn, this is a dance show not to miss.

Friday 25th September

Spring Market | Indooroopilly Shopping Centre

Indooroopilly Shopping Centre will present a pop-up Spring Market with gourmet food stalls, fresh produce, music and entertainment. Shoppers can select from fresh and cooked produce, deli items, artisanal pastries, cold press coffee and juices, gourmet ice cream and fresh flowers, all part of the exclusive pop-up marketplace-style event.

Oktoberfest | Bavarian Bier Café

That little month-long festival dedicated to drinking steins of beer and wearing dirndl and lederhosen, Oktoberfest (have you heard of it?), is finally upon us and  Bavarian Bier Café is kicking off celebrations with steins a-plenty, bites to eat and LOTS of fun.

Polo Los Loosa | Elysian Fields

If you’re after a day involving frivolity, fine food and drink and a quality spectator sport, Polo Los Loosa is calling your name. Set in the idyllic Elysian Fields in the Gold Coast Hinterland, this event will see world-class polo players from Argentina, Brazil, England and New Zealand competing for the title of Australian Open Champion. While those hunks sweat it out on the field, you can relax on the sidelines with a boho luxe garden party, sample an all-day grazing menu prepared by award-winning chefs and sip on boutique beer, French champagne and glasses of Pimms.

Sunsuper Riverfire at South Bank

That little event where thousands of Brisbane-ites flock to the riverside to watch things explode in the sky and celebrate the end of another great Brisbane Festival is on again this Saturday. Hooray for fireworks! All the usual fun will be kicking off from 7pm at South Bank.

Riverfire at The Fox

Riverfire is here, friends! There will of course be fire in the sky, and good times to be had, but if you want a really quality night, then book your ticket to The Fox's annual Riverfire cocktail party now. With the sweetest views of the fireworks, great music and a gourmet summer BBQ menu, you'll be kicking yourself if you miss out. $89 will get you a four-hour drinks pack and all the delish morsels you can eat.

Blues Under The Freeway

The Morrison Hotel is turning their very generous hands to supporting a great cause this Sunday with Blues Under The Freeway, the official after-party of the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride. For the third year running, there will be an amazing line up of great blues musicians (including Phil Emmanuel, Kevin Borich and Asa Broomhall), a curated selection of Australia’s coolest craft brewers, and the Morrison’s usual whisky nips and steak fare. Entry is free so head down from 10am.

The country’s leading styling school, Australian Style Institute, is bringing its sell out ‘Become A Stylist’ course to Brisbane this month! Le Diner En Blanc

That’s right, guys! The white-hottest event of the year is back and it’s time for you to try your luck at nabbing a sought-after ticket to Brisbane’s fourth edition of Le Dîner en Blanc. If you’re lucky enough to snag one, you’ll have to don your finest all-white outfit and BYO tables, chairs, fine china, silverware and white tablecloth, as well as your own feast (or you could always opt for a pre-prepared gourmet basket from Cuisine on Cue). Sirromet will be serving up wine and champagne. Every year is a different secret location, so you won’t know where you’ll be sharing this beautiful picnic with friends and strangers until you get there! Registration works like this: Phase 1 is for members who attended the previous year; Phase 2 is for new members who are referred by a Phase 1 attendee; and Phase 3 is for newbies.

Beach Party Raceday

Brisbane Racing Club’s bringing the beach to the track when the annual Beach Party Raceday returns to Doomben Racecourse! Cruise under palm trees and take in the live racing action. Enjoy the sounds of summer on the main stage as you kick back in a deckchair—where else would you rather be? Play a game of beach volleyball with your mates before tucking into a BBQ lunch and cracking a cold one.  Plus, there’ll be a best-dressed competition and a cocktail bar for the ladies. Once you’ve caught all the live races and interstate action from the Caulfield Guineas dance the night away in the sand with a live set from Aussie DJ duo and ARIA chart toppers Rave Radio.
