The Easter long weekend has us all razzed up, overjoyed to be leaving the office early this week to get out and about and enjoy all the good things that are happening in Brisbane this weekend. We've got a huge seafood luncheon happening, plenty of cinema goodness (the perfect long weekeknd activity), Beyonce trivia night, plus the iconic Bluesfest (okay, not really "Brisbane" but definitely close enough for a day trip!) is back.

If your plans are looking a little sparse (or you need to take a break from eating your own body weight in chocolate), then read ahead for the best things to do this Easter long weekend in Brisbane.

Thursday 13th April

Byron Bay Bluesfest

When you’re blessed with a four-day weekend why wouldn't you want to spend it down south celebrating the best of blues and roots culture at the iconic Byron Bay Bluesfest? With over 200 performances, 5 licensed bars, 6000 campers, over 100 food and market stalls, beer gardens, and child-friendly entertainment, there’s a lot going on over the 5-day festival.  This year's lineup includes Patti Smith (!!) and her band (performing the entirety of Horses—omfg), multi-platinum artist Zac Brown Band, as well as The Lumineers, Buddy Guy, Billy Bragg, Mavis Staples, Jethro Tull and many more. The 28th year of the festival is expected to be just as big as always, but with a few extra treats to raise the bar even higher.

Beyonce Trivia And Musical Bingo

Even if Easter isn’t a particularly religious holiday for you, you can still join in the festivities and celebrate a genuine pop deity, Queen Bey herself in an evening of trivia and musical bingo at The Brightside. Prizes will be awarded to winners, but even if you don’t win you can still have a boogie and a bevvy. Attendance is free, but if you’re eager to play then hop online and register beforehand. Now go on, scour Beyonce’s social media platforms for some pre-trivia research.

Roaring Twenties Cinema

Roaring Twenties Cinema returns to Brisbane and we are SO keen to get our fix of classic cinema. Hosted in the newly refurbished Lumen Room at Metro Arts, the vintage program includes previews, a short, and a feature film—a two-hour long immersive program of authentic 1920’s cinema culture! See the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd, and more on the silver screen once again. And if you think it couldn’t get more charming, all silent features will include a live pianist playing a musical score! How sweet is that?

Picnic And Pantry

Queens Plaza has a new eatery hub, Botanica Occasions; a botanical-inspired space offering a stellar selection of artificial flora (it’s genuinely beautiful) as well as delicious eats from around town. Celebrating the flavours of autumn, you can swing by Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00am to 3:00pm for delicious feeds from the likes of Nodo Donuts, The Golden Pig, Yes, Joy, Miss Bliss Whole Foods Kitchen and more Brisbane faves. As well as foodie delights, the space will also host workshops until early May—see online for more details.

Where: Queens Plaza, Brisbane CBD
When: 10:00am Wednesday-Saturday, ongoing until 6th May.

Middle Kids Concert

The Middle Kids have had a momentous rise since the release of their debut single, 'Edge of Town', in May 2016. Gaining national radio play on Triple J, it also became a favourite of Sir Elton John who added it to his Apple Music playlist and aired it on his Beats 1 radio show. Not bad for a band that hadn’t even played a gig at the time the single was recorded. Combining indie-rock elements with some alt-country flavour, their EP was well received during their American and UK shows. If their live act is anywhere near as special as their EP, then you won’t want to miss out.

Eat Street Northshore

Eat Street has finally returned to town and our bellies are ready for a feed. Not only is there a new location, the general feel of Eat Streets has had a massive overhaul, now less of a market and more of a destination dining and entertainment precinct. No more transient market stalls - now all your favourite vendors are housed inside permanent shipping container eateries! With more seating (including riverside picks), private function spaces, more parking (thank God!), and events such as an open-air cinema and long-table dinners with guest chefs, this is Eat Street 2.0 and we are SO keen to check it out!

Where: Hamilton Warf, Portside
When: Every Friday and Saturday, 4:00pm to 10:00pm, and Sundays from 11:00am to 7:00pm.

Sunday 16th April

The Usual Suspects Screening | QAGOMA

You may have noticed QAGOMA's cinema is celebrating all the delights of the Noir film movement, with a selection of classic Film Noir flicks. Think private detectives, trench coats, shadow play, femme fatales, neon-lit streets, dive bars, and broody protagonists. This Sunday they will be doing a special screening of Bryan Singer's classic, The Usual Suspects. Grab some snacks and settle in to discover who is Keyser Söze?! Make sure you arrive early, as they don’t play trailers prior to the film and you don’t want to miss anything.

They’ve got all the goods planned, including a 4-hour premium beverage package including beer, cider, champagne, spritzers, and wine, as well as a selection of pop-up cocktail and food stations. Add to all this live acoustic music, smooth DJ tunes, and an array of roving entertainers (champagne stilt pourers, waiter service, animal handlers, magicians, and more!) and you have a whole afternoon of entertainment.
