WHEN WILL THIS WINTER END?! It honestly feels like it is only getting colder, and unless we have travelled into a parallel Game of Thrones universe I feel like spring was due ages ago. Thankfully we have a number of comforting events filled with food, wine, and good vibes to see us through another cold winter week.

James Street Food & Wine Trail

Check out this year’s James Street Food & Wine Trail running from Thursday to Sunday. Follow the trail of amazing restaurants, bars, and cafes all offering tasty morsels along your way. On Sunday explore the Market Day, spanning from McLachlan to Robertson Streets, where our locals will be serving up your favourites in street food style with pop-ups at every corner.

The Carousel

I was just wondering whether I should visit a merry-go-round or a jewellery store… ¿porque no los dos? Westfield Chermside has unveiled The Carousel. This experimental installation adds glamour to a childhood classic, donning the chic white horses of a merry-go-round with elaborate headpieces designed by jewellery designer Paula Walden herself. Take a turn on the most luxe ride in Brisbane and make sure you check out Chermside’s plethora of new restaurants and shops while you’re there!

Short+Sweet Festival

The biggest little play festival in the world is back in Brisbane! Short+Sweet is a fantastic festival showcasing more than 40 new ten-minute works from local artists. Watch up to ten short plays at once and then vote for your favourite to progress to the Gala Finals. Presented at Brisbane Powerhouse Theatre, this is a great opportunity to support local creators and discover hidden gems in the fantastic plays make their way to the stage. A lot can happen in ten minutes!

Night Noodle Markets

The Night Noodle Markets end this week and it is legitimately devastating. Ending Sunday night make sure you check them out if you haven’t already! With 23 food stalls, live music, pop up bars, free entry, and dogs welcome you will no doubt regret it if you miss out on this one. Be quick!

Rojdar Throwback Party

Do you miss the days of Beanie Babies, Rugrats, and the Macarena as much as I do? It was a better time, a simpler time, and Rojdar is thankfully bringing it back for us to bask in once more. Whether your style was Lizzie McGuire-chic or Daria-idgaf-esque, get back into the vibe of the late 90s/early 00s and shake your butterfly hair clips out to the tunes of Britney, Destiny’s Child, and many more.

Saturday Night Fever 40th Anniversary Screening

Saturday Night Fever is 40 years old! For those of you who are only half this age this may not be very exciting, but trust me this movie is worth celebrating! The University of Queensland will be screening the classic disco hit after a pre-show throwback disco featuring a live DJ. There will be prizes for best dressed so don yourself in 1977s freshest look and enjoy John Travolta’s breakout role.

Regatta Fair

The Regatta Hotel is hosting a beer, food, and wine fair this weekend, and the best part? Free entry! Indulge in an array of different beverages, including a Chambord pineapple punch served in its own pineapple rind. The food is just as exciting, serving up wood-fired pizzas, loaded chips, freshly shucked oysters, and honey puff cream sundaes. And don’t worry about all the amazing food and drink throwing your visual aesthetic off fleek, there will be a Stefan pop-up salon for the girls and a Sailor Jerry barbershop for the boys to keep you looking fresh all the way through to your last cocktail.

Weekend of Darkness

Only a few streets from the lively Regatta Fair an entirely different festival is brewing. The Scratch is delivering an impressively dark and dank line-up of beer for the fifth annual Weekend of Darkness festival. Try a range of his dark concoctions, infusions, barrels, porters, and all things dark and beery in between. Stay tuned on their event page for a full beer and food list.

The Regulars EP Launch

The Regulars have released their debut album Waiting For… and you’re invited to the EP Launch at Milk Factory this weekend. With opening acts by Darklab and Lex, and tickets only $10, this will make for a good night out with the newest tunes available. Chill out to the sounds of their 12-month-in-the-making set of originals, from local veterans of the Brisbane and Sydney music scene The Regulars.

Australian Poetry Slam ‘17

Let’s be real, we’ve all written a bit of angsty prose as teenagers and thought we were super deep, but what if that one verse poem on a piece of scrap paper was actually a masterpiece? The Australian Poetry Slam ‘17 is starting up with heat one this weekend and is the perfect place for you to test your spoken word abilities. Are you Queensland’s next slam champ? Wings for Life Gala Ball

Another event set out to honour the greatness of John Travolta is the Wings for Life Gala Ball on Saturday night. Groove to the Bee Gees while raising money and awareness in support of the royal Flying Doctor Service. Tickets include a three-course dinner, drinks, dancing, and live entertainment.

You’re The Voice

It can’t just be me who misses school choir. Something about singing with a group makes for an exhilarating experience reminiscent of your carefree school days. You’re The Voice is a public event organised to unite Brisbanites in song for a good cause. Rock up to Southbank Parklands this Saturday to join pop up choirs and raise your voice to create awareness for domestic violence.

Royal Daytime Do

Join the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital foundation for a lunch to help raise funds and awareness for Motor Neuron Disease. Alondra and Duo Lechner Tiempo

As part of their Maestro Series, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra presents one of the most dramatic and compelling events of the season as acclaimed Mexican conductor, Alondra de la Parra, will lead a passionate stand-off between the phenomenal Lechner Tiempo duo. Born in Argentina, this brother-sister duo displayed prodigious piano talent from early childhood and have since garnered global fame for their two-piano pieces. Book your tickets to see their duelling digits first hand, but hurry; this event is tipped to sell out fast.
