Two Minutes with Pepe Saya

I would like to introduce (drum roll please...) Pierre Issa, otherwise known as Pepe Saya, or the King of Butter. Married to his high school sweetheart (Mrs. Saya as he likes to refer to her), the 36 year-old has two kids and a large cult following thanks to his crazily addictive butter. Not only a producer of gourmet butter, but cream, creme friache and mascarpone, you will find his products in a number of acclaimed restaurants including; Rockpool Bar and Grill, Sepia and Black by Ezard. More locally, you can source out his fabulously cultured creations at Sourced Grocer and Pearl Cafe (just to name a few). 

TUL: Describe in once sentence what you do for work?
I make butter from single cream at my local farm; Country Valley Dairy in Picton, NSW.  For human consumption ofcourse.

TUL: What is the most exciting part of your job?
Watching people enjoy my butter.

TUL: If you weren't working in your profession, what other career would you choose?
I would work as a steel smith, like my dad. I hate office jobs and love creating!

TUL: If you were an animal, what would you be?
A Rhino

TUL: If you could have a super power what it be?
Freeze time

TUL: Must haves for the season?
Food: Truffle

Transport: Royal Enfield
Clothes: RM Williams Boots

TUL: The last thing you purchased?
A reuben sandwich from Pyrmont Growers Market.

TUL: Best way to spend $50?
Get your self down to Pino's Dolce Vita Fine Foods in Kogarah, NSW and ask for a grass fed Taralga Springs beef rib - AMAZING! 

TUL: And the best way to spend $500?
I have two young boys, so if i didn't say toy shopping I'd be in trouble.

TUL: The best gift ever received?
My kids.

TUL: The best gift that you have ever given?
A kiss.

TUL: What would you request for your last meal on earth?
Vegemite, butter and sourdough.

TUL: What is your Sunday routine?
It starts at 6:30am with the kids making noise, followed by coffee, coffee and more coffee until 9am. After that I lay around until 11am before I start cooking with Mrs. Pepe - chicken korma, tarte tatin and roasts frequent the menu. This is followed by a little bit of Wii, a trip to the park with the kids and more sleep!

TUL: Favourite City?
Amman, Jordan. It's the memories I think.

TUL: Places in Brisbane you couldn't live without?
Sourced Grocer, Fino Fine Foods and Pearl Cafe.

TUL: Shopping Destination?
Dues Ex-Mechanica (everything moterbikes).

TUL: Indulgence?
Creme brulee
