This Week In Brisbane

By Phil Swan - 02 Sep 2013

The best thing about Monday's would have to be going through the calendar and finding out what's on this week in Brisbane. Luckily, we've done the hard work for you! Here's what's happening in Brisneyland this week.

Monday 2nd

Sourdough Workshops | The Box

The Box in West End is one of our fav' little creative spaces—we love their monthly flea markets. And we now love that they're bringing back their Sourdough Workshop in September. The workshop includes tasters of different breads, recipes, and a starter kit to get home and start baking your own!

Where | The Box
Price | $50

Tuesday 3rd

Brisbane Writer's Festival

The Annual Brisbane Writer's Festival kicks off today and, as usual, there is just so much to see! In case you missed it, here's our wrap-up of five talks you must see at the festival.

Where | Various
Price | From $12

Wednesday 4th

Black Truffle Celebration Dinner | Lutèce Bistro

Aren't truffles just the flavour of the month! Lutece Bistro and Wine bar are getting in on the action by hosting a seven-course feast with matching wine, and West Australian Black Truffles. Yummo!

Where | Lutèce Bistro and Wine Bar
Price | $185

Sip Your Cellar | Moda

This is a great concept put together by Moda. They understand there are many wine collectors and connoisseurs in Brisbane who have beautiful wine, but many restaurants don't give collectors the chance to bring them in. Moda are giving you that opportunity as their chef prepares a 4-course degustation dinner and you BYO the wine. No corkage. Everybody wins!

Where | Moda Restaurant
Price | $99

Piggy In The Middle | Pearl Café

Pearl Café know how hard hump day's can be. It's that tipping point from mid-week to the tail end of the week. Throughout spring the team at Pearl Café will be serving up a Byron Bay free-range suckling pig for you to feast on. A plate of pig and chardonnay-roasted spuds is so cheap you'll squeal.

Where | Pearl Café and The Servery
Price| $25

Typism | Typography Conference GC

Now this is cool, if only it were a little closer to the CBD . . .. . . Typography is one of those on-trend art forms at the moment. Hand-drawn fonts and typefaces, point-size, adjust your leading, tracking, and kerning. If I've got you lost then maybe the conference isn't for you.

Where | BCC Cinemas at Pacific Fair
Price | from $70

Thursday 5th

In Vogue | Songs by Madonna

Michael Griffiths (from Jersey Boys) is Madonna. Griffiths embarks on an emotional rollercoaster playing Madonna through her teen years right through to today as an international pop icon—singing all her classic hits with a piano under his fingertips. But does he rock a pointy bra? You'll have to go and find out.

Where | Brisbane Powerhouse
Price | from $32

Saturday 7th

Real Food Festival | Maleny

For those of you looking for a brief getaway this weekend, head north up the highway to the Real Food Festival. The festival showcases a variety of food from Sunny Coast producers, manufacturers, retailers, and restaurants. Plenty up there for the kidlets too.
Where | Maleny

Brisbane Festival Begins | Everywhere

Never mind the election, Brisbane Festival will kick off in a truly grand style with performances all over town. Must see events include Paul Kelly's Conversations with Ghosts at QPAC and the highly-anticipated return of La Soirée at The Spiegeltent.

Red Deer fest' Is seriously one of the best festivals going around. It's on the northside (represent!), it's got a killer line up (The Grates, Mat McHugh, Kingswood, Chance Waters etc.), there is free camping if you want it, plus BYO couches, and wait for it . . . BYO Booze! See you there!

Where | Mt. Samson
Price | $79
