Brisbane, you're certainly dishing up some fine events this week. We're right in the middle of Brisbane Festival, the new Gasworks Plaza is firing up with some great events, and it's Grand Final week! As usual, there is never a dull day in our sunny city. Here's our edit of this week's events:


Generate Public Art Project

Generate aims to activate everyday spaces with contemporary Queensland art and design. It is an interactive art exhibition that invites audiences to experience Newstead Riverpark. Twelve installations can be found across both the new Gasworks precinct and the Waterfront Newstead precinct, a you can check it out until the end of this month!

Fight The Landlord | Judith Wright Centre

Spend a hilarious evening around a card table with three friends in panda suits in this shining example of Chinese absurdism. This fast-paced, interactive theatre production explores the endless dilemmas facing China's swelling Gen Y generation, with bittersweet sentiment and wicked humour.

The Rite of Spring/Petrushka

In a Brisbane Festival co-production, one of the world's most progressive dance theatre companies, Ireland's Fabulous Beat, will perform in the Australian premiere of an exhilarating double bill celebrating Igor Stravinsky's finest works, The Rite of Spring and Petrushka. May contain nudity.

Shady Django

Big brother and Neighbours not cutting it? Get down to Shady Palms tonight for a special showing of cult film, Django Unchained. Popcorn, drinks and snack available for purchase on the night.

Wine Education 101 | Kettle & Tin

Return to the classroom with 'The Wine Punter' Mike Ellis, and Craggy Range Australia's Chris Fullerton in this highly education wine evening. The night kicks off at 6:30pm, and tickets to this fab' event will only set you back 65 beans (price includes an amazing dinner featuring terrine of rabbit, skirt steak with confit beetroot salad, or olive oil poached salmon, and 3 wines)! Northern Soul | Brisbane Powerhouse

This hilarious one-woman show is about life in Northern England. From living with pigeon fanciers to learning to northern soul dance in stranger's living rooms.

Brisbane Brewhouse are well known for brewing some damn tasty beers. RAW presents Translations

RAW is an International independent arts organisation, which hand-selects creatives to help showcase their material. The most recent showcase is tonight, with 40 local artists across photography, make up, music, fashion, hair and art contributing. It's sure to be an amazing night out. Our picks of the night include the art of Ashleigh Brooke Ralph, music by Little Odessa, and Michelle Fleur Photography.

AFL Grand Final | Gasworks Plaza
Watch the AFL Grand Final on QLD's biggest screen, in the Gasometer at Gasworks Plaza, Newstead. Put your team colours on and pull up a beanbag to experience the thrills and spills of the 2013 AFL Grand Final. From 2pm the heritage-listed Gasometer will come alive with sporting history, giveaways and more!

Kick it Poolside | Bacchus

If you're keen to keep your weekend kicking post Riverfire, head to Poolside Sundays at Bacchus. Sunday drinks are heating up with the return of Hed Kandi for the ultimate Riverfire After Party. International DJs Shaun Warner and Kristian Hernandez are on the decks, while you lounge by the pool sipping margaritas. Tough life.

Pop Up Barber Shop

The rad team from Johnny Voodoo's are doing as they do on the last Sunday of every month and popping up shop at the Woolloongabba Antique Centre. A couple of 1960s pinball machines, Victorian era barber's chairs, and $25 cut, buzz, or quiff, you can't go wrong!
