This weekend in Brisbane I suspect the culture gods have listened to our pleas — with all the art and entertainment they have showered upon us, this weekend is itself a feast for spectators. Prepare to find yourself gawking with awe and wonderment at some incredible people doing some incredible things…then do some yourself. Here is what's on this weekend in Brisbane:
Scribble Slam | Kerbside
Pure, unadulterated expression reigns as Kerbside is hosting another Scribble Slam. Two artists will go head-to-head in a 90 minute live art battle to create the most evocative and psychedelic mural they can. Nothing is rehearsed and the winner is in part decided by a crowd vote. Mosey on down this Thursday night and amid spurts of flying paint and helpless cries of 'WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?' you can get your grungy culture fix absolutely free.
Boutique Brews Tour | Insider Tours
As in New York, Berlin and Beijing, now Brisbane is host to a variety of urban walking tours courtesy of Francis Hartnett's Insider Tours. This is a unique tour experience all about getting the most out of the city, making the service as much for the locals as for the out-of-towners. This week we're all about their Boutique Brews Tour, a boozy little perambulation that will uncover the locally brewed effervescent joys hiding in our local taps.
When: 5.30pm every Thursday. Group meets outside Groove Train in King George Square, $35 to $50 pp.
Lambie & Co Launch | Showroom
If you're a fan of sneak previews and the beauty of graphic design, get yourself down the launch of the latest from Lambie&co. Showroom provides the perfect space to ogle the latest work ahead of Lambie&co's exhibit at the upcoming Harvest show at GOMA.

Winter Solstice Festival 2014 | Northey Street City Farm
Celebrate the longest night of the year this Saturday at this year's Winter Solstice Festival. There'll be plenty to do, for the kids— and us bigger kids too—, with two live bands pumping out the tunes, some fantastic food stalls, circus acts (ever so slightly scary), fire twirling, and or course, the big bonfire lighting finale. Pecha Kucha Night 2014 | Brisbane Powerhouse
'Pecha Kucha' or 'chit chat' as the term more commonly is coined for those of us not fluent in Japanese (it was created in Tokyo back in 2003), is a concise design presentation style that consists of 20 slides, with each slide allowed just 20 seconds narration. The idea is for designers and creative types to get together in a relaxed environment and discuss their works amongst like-minded people: their goal, to present without, um, waffling on. Join in this fast-paced inspirational social gathering; there'll be drinks (naturally) and creative convo aplenty.
When: 8:20pm, free entry
