Much to see, more to eat – if weekends had taglines, this one would be ours as we look forward to all kinds of palatable pleasures and eye candy this weekend in Brisbane. Widespread celebrations are erupting all over our vibrant metropolis in honour of art, winter, culture and, most notably, food. With so much on offer there's something to entertain everyone from the most discerning culture vultures right down to us thrifty street rats. Here's what's on in Brisbane this weekend…

Thursday 26th

Bubbles and Brisket | Public
Let's kick things off with an early dinner (or a late lunch) and indulge in the bovine delights Public has cooked up for us. A hefty plate for two, Public's Texas brisket is a delectable testament to mighty appetites and a force to be reckoned with. I can't think of any better way to celebrate the glorious cow, and while we're celebrating why not pop a bottle? Oh, you already have? Super. Come with a friend and swap lines over some delicious brisket and a glass of bubbles or beer.

When: 3pm – 5.30pm, Monday to Thursday. $30 pp.

Molten Store Pop Up | Pop Up Trove
Stepping out of cyberspace, Brisbane-based Molten Store has popped up on James Street in the kind of sparkling explosion that would make Aladdin weak at the knees. Bringing fey artefacts to life, the Pop Up Trove offers a mystical bounty of ethereal pleasures ranging from utterly inspired jewellery to curiously eclectic gifts and accessories. If you've got some gypsy blood or have ever dreamed of riding wild horses, you could shed some serious coin in this cave of wonders.

When: 10-6pm Mon-Fri, 9.30-5pm Sat, 11-4pm Sun. Until July 10.

Friday 27th

Romeo & Juliet Ballet | Queensland Performing Arts Centre
Majesty and classicism collide in a dazzling display of unparalleled brilliance. 50 years ago the world's most romantic art form and the world's most famous love story were rejuvenated under the inspired touch of Sir Kenneth Macmillan, whose artful choreography exalted the tragedy to yet an upper stratum. This year Queensland Ballet remembers and, in collaboration with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, brings Macmillan's Romeo & Juliet to life.

When: June 27 – July 5

Saturday 28th

Harvest Exhibition Launch | QAGOMA
In honour of our obsessions with art and with food, QAGOMA has amalgamated those two loves to bring us the Harvest Exhibition. Launching this weekend in Brisbane you'll find a veritable cornucopia overflowing with paintings from the Gallery Collection, film, photography, and grand-scale installations, all to celebrate food in art. This opening weekend couldn't be bigger with a profusion of activities to keep you busy, from hands-on workshop, talks, and tours, to chef demonstrations hosted by QAGOMA executive chef, Josue Lopez.

With such a glorious weather forecast why not escape the city and get in touch with your roots at Eat Local Week? A display of all the wondrous pleasures the Scenic Rim has to offer this seven day festival of plenty is located just one hour's drive out of Brisbane (how local is that?). We city mice can experience firsthand the transition of seasonal, fresh produce from farm to table in this epic event to celebrate food, wine and farming. It all culminates in a taste explosion with the Winter Harvest Festival next Saturday 5 July where you can sample wines, milk and gourmet provisions all sourced and produced in the Scenic Rim.
