What's On

This Weekend In Brisbane

By Lauren Kavanagh - 17 Jul 2014

Holy woah, do we have a jam-packed weekend coming up! Brisbanites, now's your chance to take advantage of everything our fabulous city has to offer. From putt putt comps, to Colombian street festivals, to Sangria Sunday Sessions, you've really got no excuse to stay home.

Here's the lowdown on what's on this weekend in Brisbane.

Wednesday 16th

Claim The Throne Putt Putt Comp | Victoria Park
This is Brisbane's new weekly putt putt comp! Brisbanites from all over will have the chance to compete for the title of putt putt royalty and win some awesome prizes along the way (who could say no to that?). The comp will be held every Wednesday night from the 16th of July. Weekly winners will be invited back to an end of year finale on 29th October, where one lucky participant will "Claim the Throne" as King or Queen of Brisbane's putt putt scenefor 2014. Are you game?

When: Each Wednesday night from 5pm

Thursday 17th

PheNomNomNom | Wandering Cooks
If you're anything like, you're probably obsessed with staking food truck (us, addicted to food? Never!). But, stalker-ish behavior aside, the food coming out of the mobile food vans really is excellent, so when we heard that The Wandering Cooks were hosting the PheNomNomNom celebration, we figured it's the perfect opportunity to tuck into some quality street nosh.

When: 5pm

Worse for Wear | The Zoo
Worse For Wear are an energetic three piece Brisbane-based melodic punk band, writing surprisingly sing-along-worthy, catchy tunes. Catch them playing at The Zoo; tickets are $8, available at the door.

When: Doors open 7pm, WFW onstage at 9:20pm.

Martini & Oyster Series | Dutch Courage Officers' Mess
Making Thursday's in July that much more enjoyable, Alfred Street's newest member, Dutch Courage, will be hosting a martini and oyster series for the month of July. For $20, grab yourself a martini and three oysters (or bar food if you're anti-oysters) every Thursday in July. Yes please!

When: 5-10pm

Friday 18th

The Hunting Club Takes On Hacienda Style | Southbank Surf Club
The Hunting Club is calling on you to join in the flavour hunt, with more brews and and beef barbeques than you'll know what to do with. After last years success, The Hunting Club marquee is set to be the highlight of this years Regional Flavours festival, situated on the grassy knoll, opposite Little Grey Street. There will be cooking demonstrations, beer tastings and lively entertainment. Get your sombreros and maracas ready Brisbanites, you're in for a real treat.

When: 7pm

Saturday 19th

Beerkary Bakery | The Scratch
It's that time again, Brisbane! The Scratch Bar is hosting it's annual mini-festival "Weekend of Darkness", with help of beer-bakers, the Beerkary! This two-day event will see 30 of the darkest, densest, gnarliest ales from QLD, Australia, and around the globe ooze forth from the taps of The Scratch. Punters will have the opportunity to try an impressive array of styles from dark ales to porters, stouts and India black ales, as well as equally dark delights from the Beerkary crew.

When: From 1pm. Food sells out fast, so get in quick!

Pale Blue Dot | The Roundhouse Theatre at La Boite
Aliens, UFOs and strange goings in regional Australia are the subject of this hilarious and slightly oddball production opening at La Boite this weekend. Insurance Fraud Investigator Mr Pinkerton (Hugh Parker) thinks that the UFO abduction cover his company started selling is every bit a publicity stunt… that is until he is sent to investigate a case that makes him question his very existence. This is one play you want to see this year so get your tickets now!

When: Saturday 19th July until 9th August

Sunday 20th

Sangria Sunday's | Beach Burrito Co. West End
Sangria Sunday's is coming to West End, amigos! With the party kicking off at 4pm and tunes from The TBC Club dj's, we recommend you grab yourself a dirty pirate jug, settle in for the evening and enjoy the first installment of #sangriasundays.

When: 4pm

Colombian Independence Day | Fortitude Valley
Brisbane's premier nightlife and entertainment venue GPO, will add to Brisbane's growing list of multicultural events by hosting the first Aguila Colombian Independence Day festival! What's set to be one of Brisbane's most vibrant street style festivals, the event will be hosted by Kip and Luttsy from Nova, and will celebrate Colombia becoming a self-governing republic. Any excuse to party, right?

At the heart of NLNL is the belief that everyone can dance (even more so with a few drinks under our belts).
